Founded as Neapolis Volunteer Fire Department on community-backed fundraisers building Station 88 in Neapolis, Ohio in the 1950's. Now as a department of Providence Township, supported by our gracious citizens through levies. Over 65 years of history, and a dedication to helping the members of our community fill the hearts of every volunteer of our fire and rescue department. Currently, our department is staffed as a combination department with part-time (career), and volunteer (paid-per-call) firefighters and emergency medical responders. As a volunteer responder, you would respond from home when an emergency call comes into our station in Neapolis. Our volunteer firefighters play a vital role in our operation and are needed to help fulfill our daily mission to our residents. ​ Are you ready to take community service to the next level? Our volunteer personnel include maintenance workers, engineers, alarm system techs, supervisors, small business owners, full-time firefighters, emergency medical personnel, and more. | Requirements: STANDARDS FOR FIREFIGHTERS Candidates for the position of firefighter shall (ORC § 124.42; ORC § 124.43): Be at least 18 years of age. Pass a physical examination showing that the person meets the physical requirements necessary to perform the duties of a firefighter. Not have been disqualified due to criminal convictions as outlined in ORC § 737.081. BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION Every candidate shall undergo a thorough background investigation to verify the candidate's personal integrity and high ethical standards and to identify any past behavior that may indicate the candidate’s unsuitability to perform duties relevant to the operation of the Providence Township Fire & Rescue. DISQUALIFICATION GUIDELINES As a general rule, performance indicators and candidate information and records shall be evaluated by considering the candidate as a whole, and taking into consideration the following: Age at the time the behavior occurred Passage of time Patterns of past behavior Severity of behavior Probable consequences if past behavior is repeated or made public Likelihood of recurrence Relevance of past behavior to public safety employment Aggravating and mitigating factors Other relevant considerations A candidate’s qualifications will be assessed on a case-by-case basis, using a totality-of-the-circumstances framework.
