MINIMUM REQUIREMENT: • State of California Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or National Registry EMT certification. • Possession of a valid driver’s license and a driving record with minimal violations. • Possession of a Firefighter I Academy certification (or proof of “student in good standing” letter signed by an Academy Instructor if currently enrolled). • 18 years of age at the time of application. In addition, candidates will have a successful track record of the following: • Demonstrating a positive attitude in the face of difficult or challenging situations. • Working cooperatively with others to help a team achieve its goals. • Maintaining stable performance under pressure or opposition, effectiveness when experiencing changes in responsibilities or environment. • Gaining other people’s trust by demonstrating openness and honesty, behaving consistently, and acting in accordance with moral and ethical guidelines. • Actively identifying new areas for learning; responding favorably to feedback and using it constructively to take action to improve knowledge, skills, and behavior. • Establishing and sustaining trusting relationships by accurately perceiving and interpreting emotions and behavior; leveraging insights to effectively manage own responses.
