SBM FC History: Near the closing of 2007, Nyle Zikmund, SBMFD Fire Chief (Ret.), went with his instincts that the individuals of Spring Lake Park, Blaine, and Mounds View were interested in supporting the fire department with their time and talent. That instinct was the beginning of SBM Fire Corps. Planning began with posters placed in local businesses, articles in local papers, and letters sent to retired firefighters and participants from the Citizens Academy. This attracted engineers, homemakers, insurance agents, land surveyors, legal secretaries, 911 dispatchers, photographers, salesmen, and many others. These individuals range in age, ability, time, and talent. Common to all was their desire to make a difference in their community. An orientation meeting took place in January 2008 with the goal of attracting five individuals. Upon completion of the interviews, SBM had 24 Fire Corps members. We are a combination fire department that responds to approximately 1600 calls for service annually. Responsibilities range from treating patients medically to structure fires, hazmat incidents, vehicle accidents, weather related incidents and a wide variety of miscellaneous calls. You will also be responsible for driving and operating the pumps of the apparatus, covering shifts at the fire station, and participating in our various public education programs. All of our firefighters are trained medically to the EMT level and minimum level of Operations for Hazardous Materials response. Training and meetings are on Monday nights and calls come in at all hours of the day/night. You will receive an hourly wage when responding to calls, meetings,drills and covering shifts. Retirement pension available with 10+ years of service. Volunteers are needed to support various events such as fundraising, social events, and lake treatments. Volunteers will have support for any function but can also lead and run complete projects.

Volunteers will assist in preserving and sharing the history of St. Anthony Village by participating in various projects and events. Responsibilities may include organizing historical documents, assisting with events, and contributing to educational programs.

Take the lead in organizing an open house event for the co-op. Responsibilities include coordinating with members, planning activities, and ensuring a welcoming environment for prospective families.

Volunteers are needed to assist with setup and cleanup every Friday during the school terms. Responsibilities include arranging classrooms, organizing materials, and ensuring the space is ready for students and instructors.

Assist with setting up and managing gallery shows at the Maple Grove Arts Center. Volunteers will help with organizing art pieces, interacting with visitors, and ensuring smooth operations during events.

Participate in community outreach programs to promote the arts and engage with the local community. Volunteers will help organize events and activities that encourage community participation in the arts.

Assist with garden and building maintenance, help in the dining room, answer call-lights for non-care tasks, or deliver newspapers. This role supports the daily operations and enhances the living environment for residents.
