Assist in organizing and helping at fundraisers and events, including selling items, answering questions, and promoting dogs for adoption.

Help transport dogs to local events, vet appointments, and other pet-care services. Assist in relaying dogs with other organizations.

Supervise dogs at adoption events, take them for play dates, and provide much-needed exercise and socialization.

Participate in the Turkeypalooza event by helping with event setup, management, and cleanup. Volunteers will engage with the community and support event activities.

Assist in collecting food donations from August through November. Volunteers will help organize and transport collected items to designated locations.

Assist in the distribution of free clothing to families in need. Volunteers are needed to help organize and distribute clothing on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The academy meets on Thursday nights and Saturdays for six months, and is conveniently located in Saint John. Upon completion of the academy - and the acquisition of requisite state certifications - you will be inducted as a full member, and active Firefighter, of the Saint John Fire Department. After obtaining the rank of Firefighter, members will continue their education in both EMS and advanced fire disciplines over time. <br> <b><u>EMS Training</b></u> After successful completion of Fire Academy, candidates not already in possession of an EMS certification will have one year to enroll in a local, state-accredited EMS program to earn their Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification. Both accelerated (weekday) and evening classes are available through various EMS providers in the NWI Region. All tuition will be covered by the SJFD's nonprofit foundation, so long as the candidate is an active participant in the department. For convenience of location and times, most candidates chose to enroll in the <a href="https://www.franciscanhealth.org/healthcare-professionals/education/emt-training-course-crown-point" target="_blank">EMS Academy offered through Franciscan Health Crown Point</a>. <br> <b><u>Free College Tuition</b></u> The educational opportunities don't stop with the Fire Academy, however. Liberty Township Volunteer Fire Department is located 42 miles east of Chicago in Porter County between Chesterton and Valparaiso. Established in 1955, we provide Fire, Rescue and BLS protection to over 15,000 residents and 39 square miles. Our largely rural district includes the drastically growing Liberty Township and half of Jackson Township under contract. Our response area includes portions of the East/West Toll Road, a near 5 mile stretch of State Road 49,and over 10 miles of US Route 6. Over the last 5 years,the department has ran an average of 745 calls. We respond under Mutual Aid agreements to 5 neighboring departments, as well as an automatic aid agreement with neighboring Westville Fire for a portion of our rural overlapping districts. | Requirements: No experience is required,but is preferred. Junior Coaches, aged 16 to 18, work alongside Coaches to inspire the next generation. They serve as role models, helping to lead practices and activities while developing their own leadership skills.

Volunteer Coaches are the heart of the Girls on the Run program, guiding a team through a curriculum that inspires and empowers young girls. Coaches are responsible for leading practices, facilitating discussions, and encouraging healthy habits.

GOTR Ambassadors in West Central Indiana support the mission of Girls on the Run by promoting the program and assisting with events. This role is perfect for those who want to make an impact but cannot commit to coaching.

5K Event Volunteers help create a memorable experience for participants by assisting with various tasks such as setting up the course, managing water stations, and cheering on runners. Volunteers will receive a GOTR volunteer shirt.

Join the Bluebird Trail Team to assess and maintain bluebird boxes at Coffee Creek Watershed. Volunteers will check for old nests and ensure the boxes are ready for new residents.
