As a volunteer firefighter, your duties are to educate the community on fire prevention and to respond to fire and medical related emergencies. Our firefighters support the fire department in all activities including emergency response, fundraising, maintenance, and other special events. Upon approval of the application and background check, an interview with the Department Chiefs will be scheduled. Candidates successfully passing the interview will be given 60 days to schedule and complete a physical through Work Right at the Duluth Clinic. After the results of the physical have been received and approved, a department agility test will be given. When these steps have been successfully completed, the Fire Chief will notify the candidate of his or her approval to begin the probationary process. Probationary fire fighters will become active members after serving not less than one year and no more than two years and completing the following probationary requirements: •Successful completion of a Firefighter I & II course or equivalent. •Successful completion of a First Responder (at minimum) course qualified by the Minnesota Emergency Medical Services Regulatory Board or equivalent. •Successful completion of the minimum training requirements established in departmental policies. •Successful driving and operation tests of all apparatus and equipment owned by the department. | Requirements: -Be more than eighteen (18) years of age. -Be a resident of Hermantown.
