GENERAL PURPOSE The Volunteer Firefighter/Emergency Medical Technician (Volunteer FF/EMT) serves the community by responding to a wide variety of situations, ranging from emergencies that immediately threaten life or property to routine citizen requests for information or assistance. They perform within the scope of the policies and procedures of Keystone Valley Fire Department, and they perform duties in the following general categories: fire suppression, emergency medical aid or rescue, hazardous material responses, training, building inspections and public education. The Volunteer FF/EMT normally works under the supervision of a company officer and is expected to function effectively as part of a highly trained team. They are also expected to perform their duties under adverse conditions and physical conditions that may pose a high risk of personal injury or exposure to hazardous conditions or infectious diseases. The Volunteer FF/EMT is required to attend regularly scheduled training to maintain the high level of knowledge, skill and ability necessary to function safely and effectively as a firefighter and EMS provider by state law, county protocols, and standard operating procedures. The work performance of a Volunteer firefighter/EMT is continuously evaluated for general knowledge, skill proficiency, and ability to work as part of a team. Any deficiencies are corrected through remedial training. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS The Volunteer Firefighter/EMT is a non-compensated position. The Volunteer Firefighter/EMTs are not normally assigned shifts but are expected to respond from home or work to District calls. The West Grove Fire Company is a volunteer organization that is supplemented by career staff for our EMS and Fire operations and we welcome and encourage new volunteer members. We meet Monday evenings at 6:30 pm for training and on the 2nd Wednesday of every month at 7 pm at our West Grove station for our business meetings. If you see someone at the firehouse feel free to stop in anytime. Volunteers assist with brushing horses, mucking stalls, feeding horses, mending fences, and providing care and affection to the horses. Horse experience is useful but not necessary, as tasks are available for all experience levels.

Volunteers help with PR/marketing, budgeting, fundraising, event planning, and photography/videography. These roles support the operational and promotional needs of the rescue.

Provide temporary care for rescue pugs until they are ready for adoption. The duration can vary based on the pug's condition, ranging from a few days to several months.

Assist with home visits, transport rescue pugs to vet appointments, and support events. Volunteers play a crucial role in ensuring the well-being and placement of rescue pugs.
