Typical tasks of a firefighter include: * Responding to any and all types of alarms. * Driving and operating equipment and related apparatus. * Performing fire suppression operations, including rescue, advancing handlines, entry, ventilation, salvage, and overhaul work. * Performing water support operations, including working with static water supplies and tanker/tenders. * Assisting with emergency medical care, including rescue and extrication of trapped victims. * Performing cleanup and overhaul work. * Establishing temporary utility services. * Assisting in maintenance and repair of fire apparatus and equipment, and cleaning and maintaining fire station and grounds. * Checking fire hydrant flows where and when applicable. * Assisting with fire code inspections and pre-fire plans. * Responding to emergency and non-emergency calls for service (ex.: gas leaks, motor vehicle crashes, fire alarm drops, etc.). * Participating in continuing training and education programs by individual study of technical material and attendance at scheduled drills and classes. * Conducting station tours for the public, school, and community demonstrations and programs. * Supervise other junior firefighters as necessary and when directed by a superior or by policy. * Performing all other related tasks as necessary. * Performing all other duties as directed by a superior. While this is a volunteer position, the department does require a specific time commitment from its members. All firefighters are expected to answer at least 20 percent of the given runs in a calendar year (measured monthly) and attend at least 50 percent of the scheduled drills/trainings/activities offered in a calendar year.
