Colington Vol Fire Dept
Probationary Firefighter: Under direction of a Firefighter, Lieutenant, Captain, or Chief, provides direct services, individually and as a member of a team in response to fire, rescue, hazmat and other incidents. The Firefighter Probationary has not completed required firefighter coursework and may not be permitted to participate in interior structural firefighting activities. Firefighter: Under direction of an officer provides direct services, individually and as a member of a team in response to fire, rescue, EMS and other incidents. The Firefighter has completed Entry Level Firefighter courses. A Firefighter may be placed in charge of a single fire crew. If going into burning buildings isn’t something you want to try, we still have room for you. The CVFD also has a dedicated Rehab unit that responds to structure fires. These folks are regular department members, but there is no firefighting duty. They attend trainings and operate alongside of the firefighters, filling a valuable role on the fire ground getting the crews ready to go back into action. We also have a need in our Support Group. Members help out behind the scenes on non-operational activities like fundraising, such as our weekly BINGO games, annual dinners, preparing our annual fundraising letter and a lot more. Fundraising is the cornerstone of our Support Group. The folks that help us out with these tasks are a big asset to us and the community. Even if you can only help the Support Group a couple of days a month, we are happy to have you. There are no training or attendance requirements for Support. | Requirements: Any person of good moral character residing within 7 miles of the Colington Fire District, who has reached his/her eighteenth birthday and who is seriously willing to devote the time required to regularly participate in the activities of the department, is eligible to join the department. Applicant must possess a valid driver’s license. Applicants also must possess a high school diploma or equivalent (GED), or be enrolled in school. The main reason to join the department is to participate in training and respond to calls, ultimately helping those in need. Honestly, fighting fires isn’t for everybody, but we truly have a need for able-bodied folks. Kitty Hawk Fire Dept
A Kitty Hawk volunteer Firefighter is responsible for performing all functions and services of firefighting and emergency medical rescue. Emphasis of the work is on responding to and providing fire, rescue, and emergency medical services to citizens, visitors and businesses. Work involves extinguishing fires at fire scenes, safeguarding lives, salvaging property and preventing the recurrence of fires.
