Westfield Fire Department
The fire service is one of the most challenging professions today. It is this type of diversity that inspires most men and women to enter into this profession. However, this business is not for everyone. It takes more than just a desire to help people. It requires courage, dedication, assertiveness, and a willingness to learn and face new challenges. The personal rewards and satisfaction gained from the fire service are often beyond description. You will experience a sense of accomplishment, joy and elation, compassion, and fulfillment. Many members that started out as volunteer firefighters with Westfield have gone on to become paid firefighters with departments such as Houston, Montgomery, and Sugarland Fire Departments. Most that join the fire department fall in love with it and stay in the fire service for many years. WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO BE A FIREFIGHTER? Most persons that enter into the fire department have no previous fire or EMS experience. We will provide you with a strong foundation of training from the moment you step into the station. You aren't expected to be ready to run into a burning building your first day. You will be required to complete a cadet program before that time comes. The cadet program is at your own pace. The more you are around and participate in training, The faster you will move through the program. While participating in the program, you will be allowed to respond to emergency scenes and function in a limited capacity while there. WHAT IS THE TIME REQUIREMENT? It is recommended that each member spend at least 24 hours a week at the station. However, we understand that sometimes that is not possible and can work around this. Most of our volunteers will come to the station and work a 12 or 24 hour shift one or more times throughout the week. WHAT IS THE COST? The only cost is for your uniform pants (Blue Dickies, 5.11 Tactical, etc.), black belt, and black boots. All other equipment is furnished to you by the department. | Requirements: - At least 18 years of age - Live within 30 miles of the Westfield Fire Department - Criminal background check - No health problems that would prevent you from performing your duties. - Speak English - U.S. citizenship | Categories: Firefighter
