Under the supervision of the Fire Chief, the Volunteer Firefighter performs firefighting work in preventing, combating, and extinguishing fires, responding to hazardous materials incidents and emergency calls which include special rescue situations such as vehicle and steep angle rescue. Work involves training for and participating in duties of protecting life and property through the performance of firefighting and emergency service activities. Volunteer Firefighters are required to learn and participate in the operation of apparatus and the performance of hazardous tasks under emergency conditions which may require strenuous exertion under such handicaps as smoke, fire, heat and cramped surroundings. Participation in 30% of department calls for service in a calendar year is required to remain an active Fire Department member. Work is usually performed in accordance with explicit instructions and well defined procedures; however, performance of the work requires initiative and the exercise of independent judgment. East Side Fire Protection District
The East Side Fire Department provides fire suppression and auto extrication services in the eastern unincorporated areas of Belleville and the southwest portions of Shiloh. We respond to approximately 400 calls per year including building fires, vehicle fires, brush fires, vehicle accidents, electrical hazards, fire alarms, carbon monoxide alarms, potential leaks, weather related incidents, and various other calls. We operate out of two stations. Station 1 is located at 1723 N Belt East, Belleville, IL 62221. Station 2 is located at 3111 East B Street Rd, Belleville, IL 62221. We are currently looking for individuals seeking to provide a vital service to their community by becoming a firefighter. The Fairview Fire Department has been protecting our community since 1933. Operating out of 2 stations, with 4 pumpers, 1 ladder truck, and 1 rescue truck. We respond to a wide variety of calls including structure fires, vehicle extrications, rope rescue, and water/ ice rescue. The Fairview Fire Department responds to approximately 500 calls per year. We offer education incentives for fire department related training, including college courses. All of our firefighters will receive standard workers compensation insurance, and additional insurance coverages including a life insurance policy. All Firefighters start out on probation where they will be trained in all aspects of firefighting, first aid, and rescue technics. Including driving and operating fire engines. Volunteers have a monthly association meeting and 3 fire training sessions a month on Thursdays. For new Firefighters, training is also held every other Monday on the basics. There is a significant amount of time and training needed to teach the modern firefighting tactics and learn how to be safe while engaging in an exciting and dangerous profeesion. But the rewards of helping your neighbors and friends, knowing what to do in an emergency situation is extremely satisfying and rewarding. There is no greater feeling than helping someone survive during one of their worst experiences. | Requirements: You must live within the Troy Fire Protection District, be 18 years of age, complete an application in full, and possess or able to obtain a valid Illinois driver's license in order to be considered for a position. Looking for excitement as a volunteer firefighter? Troy Fire Protection District has had a long tradition of volunteer Firefighters protecting the lives and property of their neighbors. Troy Fire responds to over 300 emergency and routine calls for help each year. The experiences you will have as a member of the TFPD will bring you closer to the community and the personal reward of helping others through the fire service is unmatched. Our Firefighters respond to structure fires, car fires, vehicle accidents, hazardous material incidents, specialized rescues, and routine calls for smoke and carbon monoxide alarms in homes and commercial businesses. Our Firefighters also assist our Full-time Paramedics on difficult EMS calls. All Firefighters receive training in all areas of emergency service. We have training on Thursday 3 or 4 times each month as well as monthly association meetings. Troy has a burn building where you will get hands-on training with actual live fire!
