Work with Angels Among the Elderly at the Fuquay Homes for the Elderly to distribute essential items, assist with holiday baked goods and gift cards, and provide shopping bags for the annual Christmas Shopping Spree.

Our volunteers staff apparatuses right alongside the career personnel and are an integral part of our response system. This means that we expect a lot from our volunteers, but in return, we provide all training, uniforms, and equipment you need to help protect yourself and the community. You also get the pride of knowing you made a difference in the lives of others. Spout Spring Emergency Services volunteers receive special consideration when full-time positions become available, though there are no guarantees a volunteer will be hired for a career position. If you are interested in applying, please come by Station 1 during business hours, Monday - Friday and pick up an application. Training is conducted weekly and it is mandatory that regular attendance is maintained. In the event regular attendance is not maintained (valid reasons are excused), individuals are subject to removal from the department. The application and clearance process can take a few months, though every effort will be made to determine eligibility as quickly as possible. Volunteers help with various gardening tasks such as weeding, spreading mulch, and installing or rejuvenating gardens. Volunteers can also participate in scheduled events that include a learning session followed by hands-on gardening work.

Animal Pickup Personnel are involved in the on-site rescue of injured birds, often requiring physical activity to capture and transport the animals safely. Training in animal capture is provided.

Transport Personnel are responsible for transporting birds to and from the vet or other facilities, as well as picking up food and supplies. This role involves little to no actual animal handling.

Cage Maintenance Volunteers are responsible for cleaning cages and feeding animals. This role is essential for maintaining the health and cleanliness of the facility and requires training.

Construction Volunteers assist in building new cages and repairing old ones, as well as constructing displays for educational shows. This role requires skills in construction and repair.
