Upon graduation, each certified canine therapy team is assigned a location to volunteer based on the dog's temperament and the handler's preferences. Volunteers work in schools, hospitals, and veteran facilities, providing support and companionship to those in need.

The RFD offers a number of opportunities to serve your community through the volunteer fire service, and much of it has nothing to do with firefighting. The fire service is not for everyone. You need more than just a desire to help people in order to succeed. You need courage, dedication, assertiveness, and an open mind to learn new skills and face new challenges. You will also need to have the time for training sessions, meetings, emergency responses, and various other functions. There are many other ways to assist your community through the RFD. Dignity Kitchen Volunteers assist in preparing ingredients, cooking, and serving meals for the childcare food program and YWCA events. Responsibilities include maintaining kitchen cleanliness and organization.

Adult education tutors work one-on-one or in small groups to assist students with reading, writing, or math skills. Volunteers must have a high school diploma and enjoy working with people, as well as support English as a Second Language learners.

Foster Grandparents work with students one-on-one in schools or childcare centers to help them reach educational goals. Volunteers must be 55 or older and work a minimum of 15 hours per week, with orientation and training provided.
