Volunteers assist in collecting data to track the health of lakes and ponds, measuring water clarity, temperature, dissolved oxygen, and phosphorus. Monitoring is conducted May-September, twice a month. Both trained and untrained volunteers can support the program.

Volunteers survey lakes and ponds for invasive plants, spending time on their favorite body of water on their own schedule. Most surveying is conducted from the surface by canoe or kayak. Training in survey techniques and plant identification is provided.

Trained volunteers work alongside technical leaders to identify sources of erosion and polluted stormwater runoff. Volunteers become local experts by attending an in-depth training session and assisting with the survey, then continuing public education by sharing their knowledge.

As a Courtesy Boat Inspector, you will help prevent aquatic invasive species from entering our lakes by inspecting boats and trailers at public launches. This role requires flexible volunteer shifts of 2-3 hours, one day a week, with training provided.
