Train with Ambassador Raptors and travel to schools, libraries, and events to educate the public. Participate in special events like fundraisers and require a long-term commitment due to training.

Assist with fundraising, event planning and support, mailings, and grant writing. Flexible hours are available for volunteers with limited availability.

Assist with the care of raptors by preparing diets, feeding and watering the birds, and monitoring their behavior. Volunteers also assist with treatments for injured raptors.

College students can apply for internships to gain experience in wildlife care, including preparing diets, feeding, monitoring raptor behavior, and assisting with educational programs.

Engage in weekly aviary cleaning, maintenance tasks such as painting and repairs, and grounds upkeep including mowing and snow removal. Volunteers work on new constructions and general property maintenance.

Volunteers assist with organizing and running fundraising events, adoptions, and special events. Responsibilities include setting up, managing logistics, and engaging with the community to promote the rescue's mission.

Foster volunteers provide temporary homes for dogs, cats, kittens, birds, and small animals. Volunteers are responsible for caring for the animals, which includes feeding, socializing, and providing a safe environment until they are adopted.

Transport volunteers help by driving animals to and from foster homes, veterinary appointments, and adoption events. Volunteers must ensure the safe and comfortable transport of animals.

The Department is seeking motivated individuals to serve the Town in capacities of EMS, Firefighting, Driver/Operators, supportive and administrative. Volunteers help keep rescued animals happy and healthy by cleaning stalls, replacing shavings and straw, cleaning food and water dishes, refilling waters, raking hay, and performing other necessary tasks. The Pomfret Volunteer Fire Department is an all-volunteer, full-service fire department providing world-class fire protection and emergency medical response services. These services are provided through a highly-trained, dedicated and adaptable force of volunteers. Our firefighters respond to about 350 calls for service throughout the year. Pomfret Fire Department is seeking people to join our team of responders to fire, rescue, and medical emergencies in the town of Pomfret, CT. Our department responds to about 320 calls per year in our rural town of 4,200 people which covers 40 square miles. Applications are available on the website www.pomfretfire.org, at the station at 67 Hampton Road next to the Little League Field, or by request at emergencymanagement@pomfretct.org. All training is provided at no charge. We will work with anyone's skills and interests to develop a training path in one or more basic areas of: interior firefighter; exterior firefighter; rescue technician; emergency medical responder (EMT or EMR); truck driver; pump operator; Fire Police/Traffic Direction. Junior members ages 14-18 are welcomed and can serve under certain limitations. We also accept "Associate" members, who don't respond to calls but can assist the department with affiliated operations such as in-house documentation, equipment maintenance, fund raising activities, and public education. Active members are eligible to receive benefits including a per-call stipend and town tax abatement up to $1000. | Requirements: Pomfret residence is preferred but not mandatory. New members must pass a physical examination with the department physician (no charge). Interior Firefighters must show proof of or attain Firefighter 1 Certification.
