The Volunteer Firefighter/Emergency Medical Technician (Volunteer FF/EMT) serves the community by responding to a wide variety of situations, ranging from emergencies that immediately threaten life or property to routine citizen requests for information or assistance. They perform within the scope of the policies and procedures of the Oakdale Hose Company and they perform duties in the following general categories: fire suppression, emergency medical aid or rescue, hazardous material responses, training, building inspections and public education. The Volunteer FF/EMT normally works under the supervision of a company officer and is expected to function effectively as part of a highly trained team. They are also expected to perform their duties under adverse conditions and physical conditions that may pose a high risk of personal injury or exposure to hazardous conditions or infectious diseases. The Volunteer FF/EMT is required to attend regularly scheduled training in order to maintain the high level of knowledge, skill and ability necessary to function safely and effectively as a firefighter and EMS provider in accordance with state law, county protocols, and standard operating procedures. The work performance of a Volunteer firefighter/EMT is continuously evaluated for general knowledge, skill proficiency, and ability to work as part of a team. We have many tasks that need to be maintained allowing Firefighters to focus on emergency response and training. Are you an event planner? The department is responsible for millions of dollars worth of equipment and must maintain accurate financial records to maintain our non-profit status. Assist families and individuals in adjusting to a new environment by offering support in teaching, tutoring, and scheduling appointments. Volunteers also help with administrative tasks and participate in special events.

Assist players with disabilities during games by providing support and encouragement. Volunteers will help ensure a fun and safe experience for all participants.

Coach a team of players with disabilities, providing guidance and support to help them enjoy and improve their skills in baseball.

Provide live commentary and announcements during games, enhancing the experience for players and spectators. Volunteers should have a clear speaking voice and enthusiasm for the game.

Lead a team of Buddy Program volunteers, coordinating their activities and ensuring effective support for players with disabilities during games.

Performs firefighting duties such as combating, extinguishing outside fires and answering emergency calls. Drives fire apparatus, lays and connects hoses, direct water onto burning structures from the exterior, raises ladders, uses other firefighting techniques such as ventilating burning buildings from outside, sets up scene lighting, performs rehab operations, assists interior firefighters with air bottle changes and filling of air bottles, assists incident commanders with scene safety, personnel accountability and communications, and responds and performs emergency medical assistance to the level of training. | Requirements: Must have the following qualities: Professional, Empathetic, Safety Conscious, Capable, Reliable, Effective, Respectful, Has Integrity, and is Committed. Interior firefighters are expected to be able to perform tasks necessary to extinguish fires both within and outside of structures and mobile vehicles and other emergencies. This includes the ability to wear full protective clothing, including self-contained breathing apparatus, deploy and manage hose lines, set up and climb ladders, enter hazardous environments for rescue, and fire suppression. Members wishing to become Interior Firefighters must complete the PA Entry Level Firefighter training program including the SBS and have a desire to attain the Firefighter I ProBoard certification. | Requirements: Application Process -Submit membership application along with required criminal background and child abuse clearances two weeks in advance of interview. -Must attend an interview with the membership committee -Application is presented to the membership to be placed on the roles as a probationary member for 6 months -Members vote on the applicant/probationary member at the regularly scheduled monthly meeting 6 months after the probation began. Training Members are expected to complete initial and ongoing training and certification requirements to remain on operational firefighter status.
