The Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department is a busy and professional volunteer fire department. The McVFD currently has 23 members, both that live in town and out of town that serve our community of approximately 1,200 people and 64 square miles. The McVFD is a progressive and innovative fire department that is well served by the city of Mechanicsville and takes pride in our training and our commitment to our community. The McVFD does all in-house fire training and will cover the costs associated with the FFI/FFII certification as well as the EMT. Volunteers provide temporary homes for rescued cats, ensuring they receive proper care and socialization until they are adopted into permanent homes.

Volunteers participate in Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return (TNVR) and rescue operations to control the stray and feral cat populations. They also assist in fostering rescued animals until they find permanent homes.

Assist with educational programs for school children and community members at Central Park. Responsibilities include helping with summer programs, engaging with children, and providing support during events.

Support various events at the Nature Center by helping with setup, managing activities, and ensuring a smooth experience for attendees. Volunteers with cooking skills are appreciated to provide snacks during programs.

Assist seniors by pulling weeds, clearing brush, and shoveling snow to maintain their yards. Volunteers help ensure a safe and pleasant outdoor environment for senior citizens.

Help seniors with household chores such as dusting, vacuuming, and cleaning to maintain a tidy living space. Volunteers play a crucial role in supporting the independence of senior citizens.

Provide companionship to seniors through in-person visits and phone calls. Volunteers may also assist with running errands to support the daily needs of seniors.

Assist seniors with technology-related tasks, including phone, TV, and computer setup and troubleshooting. Volunteers help seniors stay connected and engaged with the digital world.
