Rossford Fire & Rescue
Firefighter/EMT/Paramedics are to immediately respond to the fire station when there is an alarm. Firefighter/EMT/Paramedics are to man the apparatus needed for the alarm. The other Fire-fighter/EMT/Paramedics shall remain at the Fire Station until released by an officer or the scene is secured. Firefighter/EMT/Paramedics are to staff the radio and record all information on the Watch Desk Journal until all apparatus has returned to the station unless it is deemed unnecessary by an officer. Firefighter/EMT/Paramedics are to ensure all personal protective equipment is kept clean and in good working condition at all times. Firefighter/EMT/Paramedics are to follow the Standard Operating Guidelines for all fires and emergencies as contained in the Rossford Fire Department manuals. Firefighter/EMT/Paramedics are to help clean, inspect, and replace all equipment used on each emergency run before leaving the station, unless excused by an officer. Firefighter/EMT/Paramedics are to ensure that they are properly attired when arriving at the fire station in order to be able to perform any and all duties that may be assigned to them by the Fire Chief or Command Officers. No firefighter is to handle any victim on an EMS call unless he/she has a valid EMT certificate or is specifically authorized to do so by a certified officer. A firefighter who is not a certified EMT may drive or assist an E.M.T., other than direct patient care, if it is determined by the person in charge to be necessary because of a shortage of manpower. All Firefighter/EMT/Paramedic personnel shall maintain the following minimal certifications throughout their appointment to the department: State of Ohio EMT-Basic Certification, State Firefighter Volunteer Firefighter Certification, and AHA CPR “C” Card. All Firefighters/EMT/Paramedics will carry out any and all prescribed orders assigned to them by Command Officers or the Fire Chiefs. All Firefighter/EMT/Paramedics will maintain Fire and EMS recertification hours, and will be responsible for their own renewals. This includes Fire and EMS continuing education hours outlined by the State of Ohio every (3) years per Section 3303.08 of the ORC. When reporting for scheduled duty, Firefighter/EMT/Paramedics shall be punctual when reporting for duty and will notify the Fire Chief if they are going to be late. | Requirements: Pre-Employment Requirements: 1. An oral interview with Fire Chief and Command officers. 2. Physical Abilities Test. This is a Pass/Fail ONLY. Will take Firefighter Mile if within the last calendar year. A) If fail, no retake that day. May be rescheduled during next test dates. B) If pass, you will go on to the next step. 3. Physical by Physician at your cost. 4. Must sign for Background Check. 1. Must be available to commit to first available Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course. This course could be held Tuesdays and Thursdays or Mondays and Wednesdays depending on course location. The EMT class will last four (4) months and the class is 120 hours. 2. Upon completion of EMT course, you must attend the State of Ohio 36 hour Basic Firefighting class. This class will be held at Rossford Fire Station. NOTE: Both of the above courses are required to be a City of Rossford Fire Department employee. 3. You must attend weekly drills held every Monday in the evening from 1800-2100. Must be present for 3 of the 4 monthly drills. May only be excused from drill by Assistant Chief or Fire Chief. 4. During your first year, your EMS and Fire call attendance will be closely monitored and evaluated regularly. After Midnight response as well. 5. During your first year you will be assigned a Field Training Officer (FTO) who will be responsible for you and your progress as a City of Rossford Firefighter. Any problems that you may have during probationary year you will contact your FTO. 6. All new employees will sign a schooling reimbursement contract for both Fire and EMS training. Probationary One Year Evaluation: At the end of your first year, all your evaluations will be reviewed. Based on set criteria, you will then be made a regular employee or if all training hasn’t been met, your probationary period may be extended or employment terminated. Minimum Requirements: Age: Applicants must be 18 years of age to be eligible to participate in the Physical Abilities Test.
