During a fire or emergency, a volunteer firefighter may have to knock down doors or walls, carry large pieces of debris or pick up victims and carry them to safety. This entails either 128 hours of in-person classes over a set schedule (Basic Exterior Firefighting Operations followed by Interior Firefighting Operations), or, a blended learning Firefighter 1 course (26 units of on-site skills training and 22 units of independent online learning) over a set 9 week period. Assist in maintaining the Old Croton Aqueduct trail by reporting issues such as downed trees, trail washouts, and illicit use. Volunteers help keep the trail safe and accessible for all visitors.

Volunteers in our Host Visitation Program assist families who have children placed in foster care by supervising and supporting them during family visits. These visits are critical and help reduce the trauma children experience by being separated from their families. Volunteers must complete a 15-hour training program.

CASA volunteers advocate for children who are under the supervision of the Department of Social Services and Family Court. After completing a 30-hour training, volunteers help monitor the care of their assigned child and advocate for services.

Help assemble bags of fresh fruit and produce, and break down boxes at our Port Chester Medical Center on Thursday mornings. This role supports the Food is Medicine program in partnership with Feeding Westchester.

Host a drive to collect newborn essentials, and sort and organize donated baby clothes. This program provides expectant moms with newborn necessities and important educational information to give their babies a healthy start in life.
