Nanuet Volunteer Firefighter's serve their community and are trained to respond to a wide variety of emergency situations where life, property or the environment are at risk. Assignments vary and are based on training, physical fitness, experience and ability. Duties include but are not limited to fire suppression, fire prevention education, hazardous materials response, technical rescue, search and rescue, vehicle extrication, disaster preparedness, community service activities, public safety, response to civil disturbances and terrorism incidents. Create and deliver holiday cards and crafts to bring joy to home-delivered meal recipients. This project is great for students, teachers, youth groups, and families.

Help ensure homebound recipients have a sufficient supply of non-perishable food items by collecting and packing donated shelf-stable food items into boxes.

Volunteer drivers typically pick up meals at a central location and deliver them along a predetermined route directly to the homes of seniors in Rockland County. This role is essential in ensuring that homebound seniors receive their meals and a friendly greeting.

Assist in organizing and distributing food to families in need. Volunteers will help with sorting donations, stocking shelves, and ensuring that the food pantry runs smoothly.

Assist with meal preparation in our commissary located in Nanuet Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m to 11:00 a.m., including holidays. Volunteers help get meals out in the early mornings or clean out coolers after they are returned in the early afternoons.

Organize a food drive in your community to collect non-perishable food items for People to People. This role involves coordinating with local businesses, schools, and community groups to gather donations.

Fire Emergencies & Risk Mitigation Volunteer firefighters respond to residential, business and other structural fires. They work to suppress the fire using a number of means, including laying water lines, putting up ladders, creating necessary ventilation and entering the property, if necessary. Volunteer firefighters report to their station's captain or company officer to receive instructions. Depending on the station, volunteer firefighters may drive the fire trucks to the scene. Volunteer firefighters also operate different firefighting apparatus, including hoses, ladders, axes and saws. Emergency Situations Volunteer firefighters respond to other emergency situations, such as car accidents and natural disasters. Volunteer firefighters rescue victims and provide first aid, including CPR. Extrication may require the use of rescue tools, like the Jaws of Life, and techniques that required training and practice. Maintenance In an all-volunteer fire departments, the firefighters are responsible for maintenance and care of the fire vehicles and equipment. Maintenance duties also extend to the fire station itself; common chores include mowing the grass, attending to the landscaping and cleaning. At a fire or accident, volunteer firefighters work to clean up the scene to prevent any additional damage and may have to shovel, sweep or remove debris. Physical Because of the job's physical nature, volunteer firefighters must stay in good shape and pass a physical abilities test and medical examination before working. During a fire or emergency, a volunteer firefighter may have to knock down doors or walls, carry large pieces of debris or pick up victims and carry them to safety. Fighting fires often involves crawling through extremely hot, smoke-filled and hazardous conditions and volunteer firefighters must have the necessary lung capacity and physical strength. | Requirements: To join the Pearl River Fire Department you must complete the following steps: 1. Youth for Hospice empowers the younger generation to understand the importance of hospice care and giving back to their community. Volunteers can participate in various activities and events organized by the program.

Volunteers provide companionship to patients, assist in the office, serve in the community, sit vigil with grieving family members, and help in fundraising. Volunteering with United Hospice is a deeply fulfilling experience.

Volunteer Life Coaches at VCS are trained to create a safe, non-judgmental and supportive space for clients to share and work through their concerns. Sessions are held once per week for 50 minutes and are completely confidential.

While emergency calls occur at any time of the day and week, most drills take place on Sunday mornings and Monday evenings. The second Monday of every month is the Company meeting where administrative matters are discussed and handled. A statement of parental or guardian consent must accompany an application from anyone under the age of 18 years old. You must be a US citizen. You must be physically, intellectually and emotionally capable of performing the duties according to your area of assignment. You must reside within or near the Valley Cottage Fire District. You must have no arrests or convictions for arson. UPON ACCEPTANCE: 1) New members must complete a new recruit orientation program before responding to emergency incidents. 2) New recruits must successfully pass, within 90 days of notification of acceptance, an OSHA physical examination with illicit drug testing conducted by our designated physician and paid for by the fire department. 3) New members will be considered on probation for a period of 9 months. Their probationary activities will be reviewed within 30 days of their ninth month of active service and the probationary member will be recommended for continued service or termination at that time. 4) Removal from probationary status requires that the aforementioned requirements be fulfilled along with the probationary requirements of their membership classification. 5) New firefighters must attend regularly scheduled or special drills during the probationary period. 6) New firefighters must complete, within one year of notification of acceptance, the New York State Firefighter 1 basic firefighter training course. This entails either 128 hours of in-person classes over a set schedule (Basic Exterior Firefighting Operations followed by Interior Firefighting Operations), or, a blended learning Firefighter 1 course (26 units of on-site skills training and 22 units of independent online learning) over a set 9 week period. Probationary firefighters will not be allowed to attend any other courses prior to completion of the New York State Firefighter 1 course. The Local Trail Committee Chair (Trail Chair) is an important part of the Trail Conference. Trail Chairs take a big-picture view of a region and work with a Program Coordinator to build a positive future for all the trails and volunteers they oversee.
