Providence Township Fire & Rescue is a community-backed organization with a broad volunteer history. Founded as Neapolis Volunteer Fire Department on community-backed fundraisers building Station 88 in Neapolis, Ohio in the 1950's. Now as a department of Providence Township, supported by our gracious citizens through levies. Over 65 years of history, and a dedication to helping the members of our community fill the hearts of every volunteer of our fire and rescue department. Currently, our department is staffed as a combination department with part-time (career), and volunteer (paid-per-call) firefighters and emergency medical responders. As a volunteer responder, you would respond from home when an emergency call comes into our station in Neapolis. Our volunteer personnel include maintenance workers, engineers, alarm system techs, supervisors, small business owners, full-time firefighters, emergency medical personnel, and more. | Requirements: STANDARDS FOR FIREFIGHTERS Candidates for the position of firefighter shall (ORC § 124.42; ORC § 124.43): Be at least 18 years of age. Pass a physical examination showing that the person meets the physical requirements necessary to perform the duties of a firefighter. Not have been disqualified due to criminal convictions as outlined in ORC § 737.081. BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION Every candidate shall undergo a thorough background investigation to verify the candidate's personal integrity and high ethical standards and to identify any past behavior that may indicate the candidate’s unsuitability to perform duties relevant to the operation of the Providence Township Fire & Rescue. DISQUALIFICATION GUIDELINES As a general rule, performance indicators and candidate information and records shall be evaluated by considering the candidate as a whole, and taking into consideration the following: Age at the time the behavior occurred Passage of time Patterns of past behavior Severity of behavior Probable consequences if past behavior is repeated or made public Likelihood of recurrence Relevance of past behavior to public safety employment Aggravating and mitigating factors Other relevant considerations A candidate’s qualifications will be assessed on a case-by-case basis, using a totality-of-the-circumstances framework. Grand Rapids Township Fire Department operates from 17706 Wapakoneta Rd, Grand Rapids, OH. We are 100% volunteer department serving nearly 1,600 residents of Grand Rapids Township. In addition to the 14 square miles of Grand Rapids township, we also offer water rescue for ~9 miles of the Maumee River in Grand Rapids and Washington Townships. We are pursuing applicants that live in Grand Rapids Township (Wood County, OH) and surrounding area to join our dedicated team of volunteers. No previous training necessary, we will get you trained! Volunteers are needed to pick up groceries on Thursdays, bag groceries, unload deliveries, and restock shelves. This opportunity is open to both adults and children, and high school students can earn volunteer hours.

Children from Pre-K through eighth grade can participate in the Kids Volunteer Hour, working on projects like bagging pet food, sorting items, and stocking shelves. This program occurs on the first Tuesday of every month from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

Community Volunteers assist with feeding, grooming, barn maintenance, and other tasks to ensure the well-being of our horses, which are central to our healing programs for veterans.

Volunteers play a key role in making special events a success by assisting with setup, tear-down, registration, and hospitality during fundraising galas, awareness campaigns, and community outreach events.

Volunteers help maintain the landscaping, repair fences, and set up event spaces to ensure the healing environment remains beautiful and functional year-round.

Participate as a docent for educational visits, including 3rd grade visits and the Roche de Boeuf Festival. Volunteers will guide visitors through exhibits and provide historical context and information.

Help with the Haunted Waterville event by registering guests, assisting with setup or teardown, selling T-shirts, and greeting guests. Volunteers will also introduce presenters and provide information about the event.

Help with various volunteer opportunities during the Fallen Timbers Battle 230th Anniversary event, including setup, ticket sales, and greeting visitors. The event takes place from August 23-25 at Parker Square.

Volunteers are needed for various areas during the Roche de Boeuf Festival, including setup, cleanup, serving as museum docents, and assisting with crafts. This is a one-day commitment on the 4th Saturday of September.

Assist in the planning and execution of the Annual Christmas Dinner. Responsibilities may include organizing the event, coordinating with vendors, and ensuring a smooth event experience for attendees.

Assist with the Ghostly Encounters event at Wakeman Cemetery by helping with setup, teardown, and ticket sales. Volunteers will also greet guests and provide information about the event.
