The Firefighter serves the community by responding to a wide variety of situations, ranging from emergencies that immediately threaten life or property to routine citizen requests for information or assistance. They perform within the scope of the policies and procedures of the Newaygo Fire Department and they perform duties in the following general categories: fire suppression, emergency medical aid or rescue, hazardous material responses, training, building inspections and public education. The FF normally works under the supervision of a company officer and is expected to function effectively as part of a highly trained team. They are also expected to perform their duties under adverse conditions and physical conditions that may pose a high risk of personal injury or exposure to hazardous conditions or infectious diseases. The FF is required to attend regularly scheduled training in order to maintain the high level of knowledge, skill and ability necessary to function safely and effectively as a firefighter in accordance with state law, county protocols, and standard operating procedures. The work performance of a FF is continuously evaluated for general knowledge, skill proficiency, and ability to work as part of a team. Any deficiencies are corrected through remedial training. Must adhere to the policies, standard operating procedures and guidelines, code of ethics and all licensing and accreditation standards of this position. Must represent the organizations mission and vision in all actions, communications and representations with all contacts. Performs all responsibilities according to best practices in the field. | Requirements: A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities is graduation from high school and it is desirable to have obtained an associate’s degree and/or a four-year college degree in fire suppression, emergency medicine or a related field. Work in the box office, answering phones and assisting with ticket sales. Volunteers will be trained in customer service and administrative tasks.

Assist with ushering and taking tickets during performances. No experience necessary, as training will be provided by experienced members.

Assist with sewing costumes and making props for productions. Volunteers will receive guidance and support from experienced members.

Assist with advertising and promoting upcoming productions. Volunteers will help with creating marketing materials and reaching out to the community.

Help with building sets, running lights and sound, and assisting with set tear-down after shows. Training is provided for those new to theater production.

Play in the pit orchestra for musical productions. Musicians of all levels are welcome to join and contribute to the musical aspect of the shows.

Assist with the care, walking, and socialization of dogs at the shelter. Volunteers will help ensure dogs are well-exercised and comfortable with human interaction.

Assist with cleaning and maintaining kennels for both cats and dogs to ensure a healthy and hygienic environment for the animals.

Provide care and socialization for cats at the shelter, ensuring they are comfortable and ready for adoption. Volunteers will engage with cats to help them adjust to human interaction.

Participate in training sessions to help shelter dogs learn basic commands and improve their adoptability. Volunteers will work under the guidance of experienced trainers.

Assist in maintaining and improving the trail systems at Howard Christensen Nature Center. Volunteers will help clear paths, manage vegetation, and ensure trails are safe and accessible for visitors.

Participate in the Citizen Science Project by taking landscape photos at the Chronolog station to help chart the progress of Chrishaven Lake. Volunteers will contribute to creating a time-lapse video documenting environmental changes.

Support the operations of the Interpretive Center by providing information to visitors, assisting with educational programs, and helping with administrative tasks.
