Sutherlin Fire Department
Sutherlin Fire Department is a full-service fire department that responds to all types of emergencies, including structure fires, vegetation fires, motor vehicle crashes, rescues, hazardous materials, and medical aids. SFD operates out of two stations: Station 1 (250 S State St) is our main station that is staffed 24/7 with administrative personnel, career staff, students and volunteers. Station 2 (1120 OR-138W) is our resident station that houses resident students and volunteers. SFD offers many opportunities, whether you are interested in volunteering to serve your community, or looking for a full-ride scholarship and on-the-job career experience, we have a spot for you! Here is an overview of the programs we offer: In-District Volunteer: Volunteers that live within the fire district and respond to emergencies like structure fires, wildland fires, car accidents, etc. Out-of-District Volunteer: Volunteers who live outside of our fire district; they also respond to large incidents and provide station coverage. Scholarship Student: Students are assigned to a shift and work 24 hours on/48 hours off at Station 1. Students work on an crew with a career Battalion Chief and receive crucial career experience while going to school. In return for working shifts, SFD covers the cost of school. Resident: We offer free rent for Students and Volunteers to live at Station 2. In return, resident student/volunteers respond to emergencies within Station 2's response area and also assist the Station 1 duty crew on large incidents. - - - - - What are the benefits of becoming a member of Sutherlin Fire Department? 1. Training/Certification: All training and certifications are provided at no cost. State certifications carry with you throughout the state of Oregon. 2. Rank Advancement: As a volunteer or student, you will have the opportunity to advance in rank, starting from Recruit (Probationary) to Firefighter, Engineer and Lieutenant. These advancement opportunities expand your skill and leadership capabilities. 3. Financial Incentives: We are always looking for more ways to financially support our volunteers. Our volunteers earn a paid stipend for every training, incident response, and shift worked. We also offer paid opportunities when they become available; these opportunities include: deploying to wildland fire conflagrations, covering students while at school and career staff when needed, and summer wildland firefighting work. 4. You will perform duties of a volunteer firefighter, experiencing smoke, sweat, dirt, fun, low (no) pay, service to our community, brotherhood and sisterhood of the fire service.
