The Volunteer Firefighter and Emergency Medical Responder is a vital position within the community. The volunteer is a a person willing to serve the community by performing fire suppression, emergency medical care, technical rescue and hazardous materials response services to their fellow neighbor. Work is performed under both emergency and nonemergency conditions. Work sometimes involves an element of personal danger and operations in all types of weather conditions. Help set up and take down tents and equipment, transport equipment and animals, and tend to animals and the booth during events like the Lavender Fest.

Use PetPoint software for data entry and create photographs and artwork for displays and ads.

Assist with mailing announcements and thank-you cards, and help with pop-up sales by picking up, sorting items, and assisting during the sale.

Provide shelter, food, and love to foster animals. SARG provides additional support. Volunteers must fill out a foster application and may need to arrange meetings for animal showings.

Assist in planning and preparing for the Paws for Life Gala, including soliciting donations, wrapping, photographing, and displaying auction items, and staffing the event.

Assist students with homework, special projects, and help them reach grade level. Volunteers will work directly with students to provide academic support and encouragement.

Support special events by serving as greeters, assisting with set-up and break-down, providing childcare, and performing other tasks as needed to ensure the success of the event.

Attend city council or planning commission meetings and report back to the group on relevant developments and decisions.

Help plan workshops focused on attracting industry to Oak Ridge, with an emphasis on research and development companies.

Write letters to city council members to communicate the organization's stance on development issues and advocate for responsible development.

Assist with publicity by designing ads, writing letters to the editor, or serving as a media spokesperson for the organization.

Make presentations to various groups such as neighborhood associations and environmental groups to educate them about responsible development in Oak Ridge.

Help with welcoming attendees and directing parking for in-person lectures and events, ensuring a smooth experience for participants.

Participate in trail maintenance twice a year during spring and fall, placing water bars and making improvements on over 7 miles of trails.

Join the team to dig, plant, and maintain the native plant gardens around the Visitors Center. Volunteers meet two Wednesday mornings each month from spring through fall.

Assist customers with shopping for and loading plants during the seasonal plant sales. Volunteers are needed to ensure a smooth shopping experience for attendees.
