For a person to qualify to join our team, experience and training are preferred, but not required. One merely has to be at least 18 years of age and, most importantly, possess the desire to learn. Continual training is always available and is paid for by the department. We are call personnel: we respond to calls when we are available and are compensated for the calls we respond to. Most of our members have full-time jobs and come from all walks of life. The Canada Geese Officer registers with the State of NH to manage goose nesting around Thorndike Pond. The officer monitors shorelines for nesting and works with property owners to manage nests according to state guidelines.

Weed Watchers patrol the shoreline of Thorndike Pond to identify and report any invasive plant species. Each volunteer is assigned a section of the shoreline to monitor at least once a month.

Volunteer Lake Hosts help ensure the quality of Thorndike Pond by inspecting boats and educating boaters about invasive species. Volunteers can choose their working hours and use the Lake Host app to report their activities.
