Philomath Fire & Rescue
Philomath Fire & Rescue is a District located in the bedroom community and mill town of Philomath just west of Corvallis, OR (home of OSU). We have been serving the citizens of Philomath since 1930. The mission of the organization continues to revolve around the principle of service to our community. In 2018, PF&R responded to 700 calls (EMS and Fire). The City of Philomath and surrounding areas receive prompt and efficient emergency fire and medical services from three fire stations strategically located within the service area of Philomath Fire and Rescue (downtown, Inavale, and Wren). Our fire district is comprised of approximately 58 square miles and serves a population of over 9,000 residents. We rely on our cadre of 35+ volunteer fire and EMS responders, 3 Career Firefighter-Lieutenants (24-hour shifts), 6 resident Volunteers, Fire & Life Safety Captain, Deputy Chief, and the Fire Chief to provide the staffing to cover the needs of the community. In addition to emergency response, our volunteers provide medical and fire standby at events, help with fire and life safety education around the community and attend regular training to keep their skills and knowledge current. We invite you to be a part of our team, whether you are just starting out in a Fire/EMS career, retired, or somewhere in between - we have something to offer everyone that wants to make a difference in the community. We also have community EMS volunteers that do not live within the District, but provide their services when they are able. | Requirements: No prior experience needed. Volunteers for Fire suppression attend a sponsored Firefighter Academy which is held each Fall. Volunteers for EMS must hold Emergency Medical Responder or higher certification - the Department reimburses EMR and EMT class tuition and fees in exchange for a two-year volunteer commitment. The Department encourages training in both Fire and EMS and pays for much of training courses offered locally through Fire Officer I. Volunteers are expected to attend 66% of scheduled drills throughout the year (a Fire drill is scheduled each Tuesday evening, with the first Tuesday of the month being a Business Meeting of the Volunteer Association; there are 2 EMS drills per month on a Monday evening, except for July). Points are awarded for Fire and EMS response, stand-by time, and special projects. An application is available on our website or at our Main Station. Candidates must pass a background check and be fingerprinted. Fire candidates must pass a FIT test and physical body and agility exams (all paid for by the Department). | Categories: EMT, Firefighter
