The Pleasant Valley Fire Department serves the community of Barkhamsted Connecticut. We provide volunteer fire and rescue services. We are a small department responding to about 200 calls per year. We have immediate and critical need for new staff. We have lost several members in the last few years and are running short. The Winsted Fire Department is looking for men and woman to become Firefighters, Fire Police/ Support position and Explorers. The WFD responds to 600 to 800 calls a year in the Town of Winchester and the surrounding towns. The WFD will send new members to a regional fire school for training at no cost to the individual. The Winsted Fire Department offers pay per call and a tax abatement to active members. Engage in the conservation of sea turtles by monitoring nesting sites, assisting in data collection, and educating the public about sea turtle conservation efforts.

Participate in monitoring coral bleaching events by collecting data on coral health and environmental conditions. Volunteers will work with scientists to assess the impact of bleaching on coral reefs.

Assist in the restoration of coral reefs by participating in activities such as planting coral fragments and monitoring coral health. Volunteers will work alongside marine biologists and other conservationists to help restore vital marine ecosystems.

Assist in the removal of invasive Eurasian milfoil plants from local water bodies. Volunteers will help in identifying and removing these plants to protect native aquatic ecosystems.

As a Volunteer Firefighter with the Riverton Volunteer Fire Company, you’ll serve your community by responding to fires, medical emergencies, motor vehicle accidents, and other urgent situations. Volunteers assist with grooming the horses, taking them for hand-walks, and cleaning out the stalls. Volunteers also have the opportunity to engage in maintenance or construction tasks around the sanctuary.

Barn help volunteers assist with cleaning the barn and paddocks, providing interaction with horses without the responsibilities of a sidewalker.

Horse leaders work with each horse and get certified to lead a specific horse based on their handling skills. This position requires extensive horse knowledge, experience, dedication, reliability, and a caring attitude towards both horses and riders.

This position involves helping with day-to-day administrative duties such as mailings, copies, and filing. Volunteers assist in maintaining the smooth operation of the center.

Sidewalkers ensure the rider's safety by walking beside them and assisting in mounting and dismounting. They also advise the instructor on communication with the rider. Comfortable walking shoes and hydration are recommended.

Provide temporary homes for cats in need until they find their forever homes. Responsibilities include feeding, caring, and socializing with the cats.

Assist in organizing and managing fundraising events to support the rescue's mission. Tasks may include setting up, engaging with attendees, and helping with event logistics.

Transport cats to their veterinary appointments and adoption events. Volunteers must have a valid driver's license and a reliable vehicle.
