Reliance Engine and Hose Company is one of 7 volunteer fire companies that comprise the Village of Port Chester NY Fire Department (3 Chiefs, 5 Engines, 2 Ladders, 1 Rescue, 1 Spare Engine, 2 Utility Vehicles). We are located approximately 20 miles north of New York City, within Westchester County on Long Island Sound. Our department provides fire protection for the Village of Port Chester, Village of Rye Brook, 2 interstates (I-95 and I-287), the Hutchinson River Parkway and Westchester County Airport (HPN). The districts we cover include a number challenges such as elementary, middle and high schools, dense urban along with suburban areas, a coastline, office parks, and North East Corridor train line (Metro North). We are ready 24/7/365 to respond to various emergencies such as fires, utility emergencies, motor vehicle accidents and other types of rescues. Assist at the Bread of Life Rye Food Pantry by helping to serve food and support pantry operations. Volunteers will engage with patrons and help maintain a welcoming environment.

Help put together grocery bags of food for those in need at the Bread of Life Rye Food Pantry. Volunteers will pack bags, serve food, and greet patrons.

Summer camp volunteers help our educators and specialists provide fun, hands-on nature explorations to children. Volunteers must be at least 15 years old, and commit to helping out 5 days a week for two weeks between June and August. Prior experience working with children is preferred, but not required.

Garden and trail volunteers are needed to help maintain our trails, survey the grounds for plants and wildlife, and complete special projects. If you are interested in working outdoors or bringing a volunteer group, this role is perfect for you.

Animal volunteers are needed to help feed, clean, and interact with resident Nature Center pets. Volunteers should be at least 14 years or older and able to commit to helping weekly or biweekly for 1.5 hours for at least 8 weeks. No prior animal experience is necessary.

Patient Experience Volunteers provide a welcoming environment to inpatients and family members, engage in friendly, non-clinical conversation, and provide a listening ear when needed. They help connect patients/families to hospital resources and act as a liaison with staff.

Assignments are available for students ages 16 to 17 to work with staff in clinical and nonclinical areas. Students will benefit from learning, observing, and interacting with patients, families, and staff, enhancing the patient and family experience.

Support families as they navigate the complexities of the financial aid process. Assist with completing and submitting financial aid applications (FAFSA, NYS TAP, and CSS Profile); reviewing financial award letters; and identifying options for narrowing the college cost gap.

Review and provide feedback on Scholars’ personal statements and supplemental essays to ensure their submissions are high-quality and error-free. Skilled volunteers with exceptional writing and editing skills are strongly encouraged to apply!

Assist with the distribution of food from our mobile pantry. This service is provided on alternating Wednesdays from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
