Join the Neighborhood Watch program around Spectacle Lake to help monitor and report any issues that arise. Volunteers work alongside county sheriffs to ensure the safety and security of the lake and its surroundings.

Assist in inspecting boats at the DNR Public Boat Landing to prevent the spread of invasive species. Volunteers will educate boaters on proper cleaning techniques using the CD3 machine.

Assist in organizing and maintaining the museum's collection, help with exhibits, and engage with visitors. Volunteers will play a key role in preserving and sharing the history of Milaca and surrounding areas.

The Big Lake Fire Department is seeking self-motivated candidates who possess excellent professional and interpersonal skills for Paid-On-Call Firefighters. The Big Lake Fire Department currently has 38 Paid-On-Call firefighters to provide fire suppression, rescue and first aid, fire prevention, and community service. Individuals must meet response time requirements which include living within a response zone of 7 miles to the Big Lake Fire Station. A valid driver's license with a good driving record is essential. Compensation and Benefits All on-call firefighters are part-time employees of the city and township and are compensated for actual hours worked, including emergency responses, training, and special events. Pay starts at $15.00 per hour with annual steps with satisfactory reviews. Through the Big Lake Fire Department Relief Association, every on-call firefighter also earns a pension of $5,500/year (effective January 2023), which is paid in-full after 20 years of active service. | Requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent degree, residency within the 7 mile response zone, a valid driver's license with a good driving record, and clear criminal background. Under general supervision of an officer, the on-call firefighter provides fire suppression, rescue, medical and other emergency care in accordance the rules and regulations, administrative policies and operational procedures of the department.
