The Moscow Volunteer Fire Department (MVFD) is over 125 years old and it is stronger today than ever in its history. Currently, the MVFD has over 100 volunteers providing fire protection and ambulance service that covers 128 square miles and a population of over 37,000 people. Volunteers can join in the EMS or Fire Divisions - or both! We respond to over 3000 emergency calls a year. Agility testing and interviews will be in June of 2025. To join our EMS division, we require current NREMT certification. You can sign up to take one of our EMT classes (offered ~ 2 times a year)! The Moscow Volunteer Fire Department (MVFD) is comprised of three fire stations and approximately 100 volunteer Firefighters, EMTs and Paramedics who serve the community of Moscow and the outlying rural areas. The resident program is two fold: student residents help to maintain an effective volunteer firefighter program by enhancing staffing and improving apparatus response to emergencies, and in turn student residents receive free training, free housing and valuable hands-on experience that helps to prepare individuals for a career in fire and/or EMS services. | Requirements: MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS  18 years of age  High school graduate or equivalent  Have a valid driver’s license & be insurable by MVFD  Pass a driving & criminal background check  Be enrolled as a full-time (12 credits or more) student for the upcoming school year at local or online University or Community College. Applications are accepted year-round, but testing and interviews are typically in March and April of each year. For the 2026-2027 Academic School year, the applications are due on March 6th, 2026.
