Our department covers a broad area of 54sq. miles which includes, the Village of New Paris, Ohio, the 2 unincorporated areas of New Westville and New Hope, rural farmland, 6.5mi of interstate, and 4.5mi of railway. Our single station houses 1 structural pumper/tanker, 1 rescue pumper, 1 brush truck, a command staff vehicle, a special rescue/incident trailer, and 2 ALS equipped ambulances. We offer volunteer and part-time opportunities for certified personnel. Initial and advancement trainings paid for by our district. | Requirements: Requirements include: Valid Driver's License, High School Diploma or equivalent, and reliable transportation. Must possess or be able to obtain at minimum: Ohio Volunteer Firefighter Certification, Ohio EMT or higher certification, plus Hazmat Awareness and Operations, and National Incident Management (NIMS) 100 and 700. Gasper Township Fire & EMS is currently seeking Paid On-Call (POC) Firefighters to join our team. Gasper Township Fire & EMS has been serving the residents of Gasper Township, Ohio since 2003 and has been honored to serve the residents of Dixon Township, Ohio since 2006. The department is seeking those willing to serve their community and make a difference in the lives of others. Under department supervision, and in accordance with department policy, protocol and procedure, the employee shall: • Respond to fire, emergency medical, and all calls for service. • Perform specific tasks required for the effective and efficient suppression of fire and rescue activities per department SOP’s. • Follow the principles of firefighting: Life Safety, Incident Stabilization, and Property Conservation. • Clean and maintain fire station facilities, apparatus and equipment. • Participate in training activities and public relation events. • Exhibit courteous and professional behavior while interacting with co-workers, families, public safety, and medical personnel. • Promote and maintain a working relationship between officers, employees of the department, and citizens of the community. | Requirements: Certification, Licensure, Registration: • Must possess a valid State Driver's License and be eligible for driving privileges based on current department policies and procedures. • Must pass a background check. • Must hold (at a minimum) a 36 Hour Firefighter certification from the State of Ohio. • If not certified, Gasper Township Fire & EMS may assist in achieving certification, if approved by the Chief. Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Required: • Minimum Education: Must possess a High School Diploma or equivalent. Where applicable and as required must maintain Continuing Education. • Contact With Others: Co-workers, clients, patients and families, medical personnel. Must be able to write, read and speak English fluently. • Analytical Demands: Must be able to think and act calmly and quickly in emergency situations. Working Conditions: • Physical Effort: Physical demands including lifting, climbing, pushing, stooping, bending, kneeling and crouching, and otherwise maneuvering heavy equipment (up to 250 pounds). • Work Environment: Works outdoors, in weather common to the region, on a regular basis. Exposure to potentially dangerous and harsh environments. Pay Scale: • Paid On-Call (POC) Firefighter - $14.00/hr. Minimum one hour. Time of dispatch to in service.
