Fire Emergencies & Risk Mitigation Volunteer firefighters respond to residential, business and other structural fires. They work to suppress the fire using a number of means, including laying water lines, putting up ladders, creating necessary ventilation and entering the property, if necessary. Volunteer firefighters report to their station's captain or company officer to receive instructions. Depending on the station, volunteer firefighters may drive the fire trucks to the scene. Physical Because of the job's physical nature, volunteer firefighters must stay in good shape and pass a physical abilities test and medical examination before working. During a fire or emergency, a volunteer firefighter may have to knock down doors or walls, carry large pieces of debris or pick up victims and carry them to safety. We provide comprehensive fire fighting, vehicle extrication and fire prevention education from our firehouse. We are a 100% volunteer non-profit organization. The Valley Cottage Fire Engine Company No. 1’s team of approximately 50 active volunteer firefighters is comprised of your neighbors, your friends and maybe even your relatives. Their probationary activities will be reviewed within 30 days of their ninth month of active service and the probationary member will be recommended for continued service or termination at that time. 4) Removal from probationary status requires that the aforementioned requirements be fulfilled along with the probationary requirements of their membership classification. 5) New firefighters must attend regularly scheduled or special drills during the probationary period. 6) New firefighters must complete, within one year of notification of acceptance, the New York State Firefighter 1 basic firefighter training course. This entails either 128 hours of in-person classes over a set schedule (Basic Exterior Firefighting Operations followed by Interior Firefighting Operations), or, a blended learning Firefighter 1 course (26 units of on-site skills training and 22 units of independent online learning) over a set 9 week period. Probationary firefighters will not be allowed to attend any other courses prior to completion of the New York State Firefighter 1 course. Starting in the summer between junior and senior year and continuing through December, YPIE Essay Coaches provide support to our Scholars and Fellows as they write their college essays, a critical part of the college application process.

Family Service Society of Yonkers
Provide free academic support to public school students, helping them with literacy, basic math, and other academic skills. Volunteers are trained to use the most up-to-date approaches to literacy/academic support and mentoring.
Yonkers Partners in Education
YPIE Graduation Coaches develop meaningful relationships with Scholars, serve as conduits to broaden their horizons, provide connections to resources to help them reach their potential, and support them through high school graduation. Graduation Coaches meet with their Scholars two times per month and are provided a curriculum to guide those meetings.

Career Coaches mentor YPIE college juniors and seniors through the process of creating a personalized internship and job application plan, searching for opportunities, and preparing strong applications.

Volunteers assist the instructor with guided activities for children ages 0-4, while their parents attend parenting and child development classes. This program is available during the daytime in Mount Kisco, Ossining, and Yonkers.

The Ramsey Rescue Squad is an independent heavy rescue squad which continuously strives to be on the forefront of the emergency rescue industry, whether competing in extrication competitions (in order to fine tune extrication skills), offering Technical Rescue and/or Haz-Mat Technician level training for its members as well as to the mutual aid, and expecting a higher level of initial training for all members via an internal squad “Level One” training program (instructing all new members in fire fighting, extrication, Haz-Mat, etc.). Volunteers assist the staff throughout the hospital and outpatient programs, providing services such as circulating books, assisting office staff, and helping at the Gift Shop and Front Desk. Volunteers are matched with appropriate assignments to support patients and nursing home residents.
Operation K9 Beethoven A Nj Nonprofit Corporation
Assist in organizing and managing events for Operation K9 Beethoven, which supports veterans through service dogs. Volunteers will help with event setup, coordination, and ensuring smooth operations during events.
The Extended Family Solutions Inc.
Volunteers are needed to assist project facilitators in weighing and packing dried ingredients that can be donated to food pantries. Other projects include creating hand-decorated boxes, tote bags, and cards that are donated with the food products. This is a great opportunity for college students as well as retired teachers, especially those with experience in special education!

The Wyckoff Volunteer Fire Department began serving the local community in 1907. Its membership has always been, and still is, comprised completely of volunteers from the local area. Civic-minded residents with a drive to go the extra distance when the alarm rings out have joined the roster and proudly serve as one of Wyckoff's bravest. And join the Wyckoff Volunteer Fire Department! | Requirements: Members must reside in Wyckoff or a surrounding community. We have many different types of membership(Fire Police, Communication Operators, Junior Firefighters & Full Firefighters). The two main category requirements are as follows: Junior Firefighter: must be between the ages of 16-18 and have a sponsor. Full Firefighter: must be at least 18 years old. Must be in good physical health and can pass a doctor provided physical as well as a background check. For Full Firefighters, you will be required to attend the Fire Academy and become certified as a NJ State Firefighter within your first year of being a firefighter.
