The Live Oak Engine Company No.1 of the Rockville Centre Fire Department is currently accepting applications for positions as firefighters. As a member you will receive expert training in your assigned duties. Not only will you train to become a firefighter for the Rockville Centre community but you will earn the credentials to pursue a rewarding career in the emergency service field, if you choose to do so. It is not uncommon for volunteers to use their training as a stepping stone to a full-time career in the police, fire, or medical emergency fields. Live Oak Engine Company 1 has been providing emergency services for over 100 years, giving back, unselfishly, during fires, emergencies, and natural disasters such as hurricanes and snowstorms. Assist in organizing and facilitating community outreach events such as Financial Education Workshops, Annual Prom Dress Giveaway, and Women in Business Networking Brunch. Volunteers will help with event setup, coordination, and participant engagement.

Provide remote assistance with organizing and managing documents to support the administrative needs of the organization.

Drive animals to vet appointments or potential homes, ensuring safe and timely transport.

Participate in both remote and in-person activities to support the care and adoption of dogs, including handling and socializing with the animals.

Support the organization remotely by developing and executing marketing strategies to promote adoption events and increase community engagement.

Assist with processing volunteer applications remotely, ensuring timely and accurate handling of volunteer information.

Work in-person at the shelter to care for cats, including feeding, cleaning, and socializing, with shifts available in the morning and evening, seven days a week.

Assist in-person on weekends by bringing animals to adoption events, setting up event tables, and engaging with potential adopters.

Create and distribute flyers, posters, and advertisements. Participate in tabling at events and provide presentations for advisory boards and committee meetings to promote cancer awareness and resources.

Help manage Cancer ReSource Stations by coordinating free cancer patient navigation services. Responsibilities include virtual, phone, or in-person intake services, free cancer screenings, and referrals to support groups, financial assistance, and other resources.

Assist in organizing and distributing food and clothing during drives, and support fundraising events. Volunteers will also help in coordinating shelter and resources for individuals experiencing homelessness.

Participate in awareness campaigns and assist in the distribution of information and prophylaxis for HIV/AIDS. Volunteers may also help organize testing events and workshops.
