Educate the community about the Trap-Neuter-Return program and the importance of spay/neuter for cats. Volunteers will engage with the public to spread awareness and knowledge.

Assist in trapping cats for spay/neuter procedures as part of the Trap-Neuter-Return program. Volunteers will help ensure the humane capture and transport of cats to veterinary appointments.

Volunteers ride along with our driver and assist in loading, unloading, and organizing food as it is distributed across our service area. You’ll need stamina for long rides and strength for heavy lifting (up to 50 pounds)! You will have the opportunity to meet many of the people who make up CFC's food access network as well as the individuals who benefit from our work.

Help us organize and restock the pantry and distribute food during the Greenwich or Cossayuna Pantry services. Pantry volunteers must participate in a pantry-specific orientation event prior to their first volunteer shift. Help in the collection and sorting of surplus food to prevent waste and support food distribution programs. Volunteers will work with local businesses and farms to recover food that would otherwise go to waste.

Help sort and pack produce from local farms in preparation for Food Recovery's weekly distribution. Wednesdays 10:30am-12:30pm.

The Dorset Fire Department is in search of community driven individuals who want to assist in emergency response to incidents within Dorset VT and surrounding mutual aid towns. No prior experience is necessary! Members will respond to emergency calls including but not limited to: automated smoke/CO alarm activations, motor vehicle collisions, residential and commercial structural fires, search and rescue, woodland fires, and EMS assists. All required training can be provided free of charge to motivated individuals through the department, and the Vermont Fire Academy. There are opportunities for interior, (SCBA certified), and exterior, (scene support), firefighting roles, as well as driver/operators for fire apparatus. The Dorset Fire Department is not currently an EMS or medical first response agency and only responds to medical calls when requested for assistance by the primary responding EMS agency. There are also opportunities for volunteers to take part in fundraising, clerical work, and community relations. Members will receive a pager and access to computer aided dispatching software, (CAD), and upon receiving an emergency call respond to the station to formulate a response. The department operates multiple state of the art fire apparatus including an Engine Tanker Apparatus (ETA), Engine-Rescue (ER), and a "Fast Attack" Mini Pumper. Additionally the department employs a 6x6 side by side, specially outfitted for wildland firefighting and search and rescue. Trainings and meetings are held every Tuesday at 18:00, with additional training opportunities offered throughout the year. | Requirements: No prior firefighting or EMS experience necessary! All applicants must be able to pass a criminal background check, and be over the age of 18. Residency or employment within the Dorset area preferred! Members ages 16-18 may apply as junior firefighters to get valuable experience learning about the fire service, but may be limited in the types of calls they can respond to in order to ensure their safety. You get REAL firefighter training and get to be a part of something important. If you are looking for a community service role that really matters, and you have always wondered about being a firefighter, this volunteer opportunity is for you. | Requirements: To be a junior firefighter, you must be between the ages of 16 and 17 (if you are 18+ you can apply to be a full firefighter), and you must be willing to make time for the fire department. Even if you have no experience in emergency services, we provide robust training that will give you the confidence to work as part of our team. | Requirements: To be a firefighter, you must be over 18 and you must be willing to make time for the fire department. That means attending weekly trainings and participating in department operations. We require 24 hours of training per year for all active members. We conduct trainings on Tuesday evenings. All training and equipment is provided for free. Firefighting and rescue operations are physically demanding, and require a high degree of fitness. But if you are not very fit or are physically disabled in some way, don't count yourself out! There are many valuable roles in the fire service that might be a good fit for you. Your duties as a firefighter will place you in contact with children, vulnerable adults, and in the homes of strangers. For this reason, applicants will be subject to a criminal background check.
