San Bruno Fire Department Fire Cadet Opportunity The City of San Bruno, Fire Department offers an exciting opportunity to serve as a Fire Cadet, working alongside San Bruno Firefighters. The one-year Fire Cadet program is an unpaid, volunteer work experience that offers hands-on training, and introductory knowledge of firefighting skills, fire service tools and equipment. Cadets respond to emergency calls, render Basic Life Support, and participate in training and in the daily station duties. The cadet program is one year in length, and cadets must be willing to commit a minimum of 48 hours per month. Upon completion, this one-year program meets the certification requirement of one year part-time/volunteer work experience for California State Fire Marshal’s Office State Firefighter 2 certification. MINIMUM REQUIREMENT: • State of California Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or National Registry EMT certification. • Possession of a valid driver’s license and a driving record with minimal violations. • Possession of a Firefighter I Academy certification (or proof of “student in good standing” letter signed by an Academy Instructor if currently enrolled). • 18 years of age at the time of application. Assist with setting up tables, organizing books, and helping customers during the bi-annual book sales. Responsibilities include tidying tables, assisting customers, and packing up unsold books after the sale.

Create flyers and news articles to promote library events. Distribute promotional materials to local businesses and media outlets to increase community engagement.

Help maintain the Book Nook at Sharp Park Library by sorting donated books, placing them in the correct categories, and keeping the area tidy. Volunteers will also decide which books should be displayed for sale.

Education Committee Members develop and implement educational programs and initiatives to promote awareness and understanding of bird conservation. They work collaboratively to engage the community in educational activities.

At Large Board Members participate in the governance of the organization, contributing to decision-making and strategic planning. They engage in various activities to support the organization's mission.

The Publicity/Social Media Coordinator manages the organization's social media presence and public relations efforts. They create content, engage with the community online, and promote events and initiatives.

Field Trips Committee Members organize and lead birdwatching trips, ensuring participants have a safe and educational experience. They coordinate logistics and promote the trips to the community.

The Program Chairperson is responsible for securing speakers for monthly meetings, maintaining contact with them, and ensuring all necessary arrangements are made. They also introduce speakers at meetings and help advertise events on social media.

Participate in quarterly community workdays at San Bruno Mountain, cohosted by San Bruno Mountainwatch and Test Plot. Volunteers help with planting and maintaining the plot.

Volunteers are needed to commit to a weekly, three-hour shift at the Burlingame location to help provide groceries to those in need. Volunteers must be able to lift and carry up to ten pounds.

We are looking for volunteers who love books and reading! Help with events in store and out in the community. Must be 16+ and older to volunteer.

Interested in sharing your skills with the community? Host a workshop, a book club, craft club, or more. Must be 16+ with a lead adult as mentor or 18+ to lead activity.

Advisory Board Members will receive information and form the future of the organization. These members will volunteer for the organization 10 hours a year and attend two advisory board meetings.

Join the Bayview Hill Neighborhood Association in their efforts to maintain a clean and safe environment by participating in neighborhood cleanups. Volunteers will help remove litter and beautify the Bayview Gateway site and other local areas.

Join the Sea Collective as a crew member to support our mission of ocean conservation. Volunteers will participate in a training course to learn about our research methods and contribute to data collection efforts.
