Our department was established in 1953 and serves a population of approx. 6,553 citizens within a 26.67sq mile area. Thank you for your interest in becoming a member of Spout Springs Emergency Services. SSES is a combination department that has both career and volunteer personnel. Our volunteers staff apparatuses right alongside the career personnel and are an integral part of our response system. This means that we expect a lot from our volunteers, but in return, we provide all training, uniforms, and equipment you need to help protect yourself and the community. You also get the pride of knowing you made a difference in the lives of others. Spout Spring Emergency Services volunteers receive special consideration when full-time positions become available, though there are no guarantees a volunteer will be hired for a career position. If you are interested in applying, please come by Station 1 during business hours, Monday - Friday and pick up an application. Training is conducted weekly and it is mandatory that regular attendance is maintained. In the event regular attendance is not maintained (valid reasons are excused), individuals are subject to removal from the department. All volunteers must comply with SSES policies and procedures (SOGs). The application and clearance process can take a few months, though every effort will be made to determine eligibility as quickly as possible.
