Here at Delanson Fire company we understand a busy life. Family, work, and time to put everything together can be hectic, but have you ever thought about becoming a firefighter or EMT? We are looking for people who want to help there community and have fun doing it. Whether its helping fight a fire or helping a child who hurt themselves at the local soccer game we are there and you can be too. It's fun, rewarding and best of all, its helping your neighbors. You don't need to live in the Village of Delanson to join and you decide how much time you want to put in. It could be a couple of hours a month or it could be every call. Support the Domestic Violence Program by providing assistance to survivors, helping with hotline calls, and participating in advocacy efforts. Volunteers must maintain confidentiality and show empathy.

Work alongside the Stewardship Coordinator to identify and manage invasive species. Volunteers will learn to identify invasive species and help protect the lands and waters from threats.

Assist with office tasks during big mailings or events. Volunteers may also help with photography and graphic design projects as needed.

Help is needed to record the timing of biological events in plants, shrubs, and trees along the short falls loop near the Visitors' Center. Volunteers are needed throughout the year and can come on their own schedule.

Hike the trails and complete trail assessments while using small hand tools to do minor trimming of branches and weeds that may impede trail walkways. This role is almost exclusively outdoors and available only in the spring, summer, and fall. Volunteers can perform trail assessments by using the assessment form at any time or can pick a section of trail they regularly hike and become that section’s guardian.

Support and assist in teaching for school field trips in the spring and fall, summer education programs, and guided hikes throughout the year. Volunteers will receive basic training from Huyck Preserve staff.

The Volunteer FF normally works under the supervision of a company officer and is expected to function effectively as part of a highly trained team. They are also expected to perform their duties under adverse conditions and physical conditions that may pose a high risk of personal injury or exposure to hazardous conditions or infectious diseases. The work performance of a Volunteer firefighter is continuously evaluated for general knowledge, skill proficiency, and ability to work as part of a team. Any deficiencies are corrected through remedial training. | Requirements: Must be at least 15 years of age at the time of application; The Volunteer Firefighter rides an emergency vehicle in response to fire, rescue, and hazardous materials response/mitigation and routine requests for help or assistance. Assist with library publicity efforts and mailings, helping to promote library events and services. Volunteers will work on creating and distributing promotional materials.

Assist in providing a safe and friendly environment for children aged 4-9. Responsibilities include helping with homework, organizing games, and facilitating arts & crafts activities. Volunteers must undergo a background check.
