We are always looking for Volunteers to protect our Beautiful Township of Coitsville. We are seeking those wanting to be (or already are) Firefighters, EMR's, EMT's, Medics, and Department support such as our Women's Auxiliary or cadets. Calls are on a voluntary basis, drills are weekly every Monday night. | Requirements: Must be 18 years of age or older and hold a high school diploma or the equivalent, and hold a valid drivers license, unless enrolling in cadet program. Cadets must be 16 years of age, have or be working towards their drivers license. All candidates are required to pass written and physical exams, drug screenings and background checks. Must demonstrate, or be willing to learn strong decision-making skills, dependability and bravery. Must be able to pass a physical, drug test, and background test. Must be willing to attend firefighter classes, Medical classes. Must live in Coitsville or within the radius permitted by local ordinance. Senior Firefighter (Volunteer) This description is a general outline of the duties and responsibilities of the individual. This is not all inclusive, but provides a summary of what will be expected. The firefighter performs responsible service work in the fire profession and does related work as required. Work is performed under the supervision of a company officer, chief officer, or other qualified supervisor/superior. Typical tasks of a firefighter include: * Responding to any and all types of alarms. * Driving and operating equipment and related apparatus. * Performing fire suppression operations, including rescue, advancing handlines, entry, ventilation, salvage, and overhaul work. * Performing water support operations, including working with static water supplies and tanker/tenders. * Assisting with emergency medical care, including rescue and extrication of trapped victims. * Performing cleanup and overhaul work. * Establishing temporary utility services. * Assisting in maintenance and repair of fire apparatus and equipment, and cleaning and maintaining fire station and grounds. * Checking fire hydrant flows where and when applicable. * Assisting with fire code inspections and pre-fire plans. * Responding to emergency and non-emergency calls for service (ex.: gas leaks, motor vehicle crashes, fire alarm drops, etc.). * Participating in continuing training and education programs by individual study of technical material and attendance at scheduled drills and classes. * Conducting station tours for the public, school, and community demonstrations and programs. * Supervise other junior firefighters as necessary and when directed by a superior or by policy. * Performing all other related tasks as necessary. * Performing all other duties as directed by a superior. While this is a volunteer position, the department does require a specific time commitment from its members. All firefighters are expected to answer at least 20 percent of the given runs in a calendar year (measured monthly) and attend at least 50 percent of the scheduled drills/trainings/activities offered in a calendar year.
