Under the supervision of the Fire Chief, the Volunteer Fire Fighter performs advanced firefighting work in preventing, combating, and extinguishing fires and responding to emergency calls which include vehicle entrapment and other rescue situations. Being a Volunteer Fire Fighter involves training for and participating in duties of protecting life and property through the performance of firefighting and emergency service activities. Volunteer Firefighters are will learn and participate in the operation of apparatus and the performance of hazardous tasks under emergency conditions which may require strenuous exertion under such handicaps as smoke, fire, heat and cramped surroundings. Participation in 20% of department calls for service in a calendar year is required to remain an active Fire Company member. Although firefighting and emergency services work constitutes the primary and most difficult component of our work, the volunteer is also required to attend company drills when offered throughout the year. The volunteers of Woodbridge Fire Department have been serving the residents of the Woodbridge and Sewaren sections of Woodbridge Township since 1897. We are looking for dedicated, motivated individuals that want to serve their community in a vitally important way. We provide all the training and equipment you need and only ask for your time and effort in return. Our members are from all walks of life, and you will make lifelong friends. You will gain experience and skills that will help you both personally and professionally. We do not have duty times or schedules, you respond when you are available.
