Fulfill all of the requirements of probations as set forth in Policy 400.0 – Probationary Period Desired Qualities: Given the varied duties and responsibilities of a firefighter, both physical and mental, the desired qualifications are also varied. The following is a list of some of the desired qualities: High school diploma with college preferred. An interest in and an aptitude for firefighting and emergency medicine. The ability to physically perform demanding tasks under stressful circumstances. The ability to read and understand technical materials. The ability to handle and operate technical equipment. The ability to work well with others including peers and authority and maintain a courteous relationship with the general public.
