Volunteers are essential to the organization, assisting with the preservation of artifacts and supporting community programming. Responsibilities include helping with the digitalization of archives and maintaining the condition of historical items.

The main responsibilities are to assist people in distress, rescue fire victims and extinguish fires as quickly as possible. To accomplish these goals, a Volunteer Firefighter must perform a wide range of tasks. We reviewed several job listings to determine the primary duties of a Volunteer Firefighter. Inspect Equipment Communities rely on Volunteer Firefighters to inspect and maintain fire trucks, ladders, hoses and other fire-fighting equipment. Volunteer Firefighters regularly inspect their equipment for cracks, leaks, holes and other signs of damage. If a piece of equipment is damaged beyond repair, the Volunteer Firefighter submits a request for a replacement. Administer First Aid In addition to fighting fires, Volunteer Firefighters also respond to auto accidents and other emergencies. When responding to a fire or accident scene, a Volunteer Firefighter may have to administer CPR or perform other first-aid procedures. With special training, a Volunteer Firefighter may also perform basic life-support procedures. Suppress Fires A Volunteer Firefighter uses a variety of techniques to control and extinguish fires. Volunteer Firefighters use ladders, hydrants, hoses, fire extinguishers, and other tools to prevent fires from spreading. Assist in planning the signature fundraiser held each spring, supporting Pappus House's mission through event coordination.

Assist in decorating Pappus House for holidays, helping residents enjoy festive celebrations. This is a seasonal opportunity for groups or individuals.

Help maintain the beautiful grounds of Pappus House by caring for herb, flower, and shrub gardens from April through October. Participate in Weeding Wednesdays or work individually.

Develop and coordinate volunteer programs, recruit and engage volunteers, and contribute to the monthly 'Volunteer Spotlight' or 'Pappus House Newsletter.'

Provide companionship to residents in their final hours, offering a peaceful presence. This role is on-call as needed, requiring flexibility and compassion.

Prepare meals for residents several times a week, with guidance from a dietitian. Meals can be prepped at home and cooked at Pappus House.

Assist with light housekeeping tasks to maintain a warm and loving home environment for residents. Volunteers work in 2-hour shifts daily.

Be the welcoming face and calm voice for visitors and callers at Pappus House, ensuring a warm and loving atmosphere. Volunteers work in 2-hour shifts throughout the day.

Provide behind-the-scenes support through tasks such as mailings, public speaking, and fundraising. Your efforts help keep Pappus House running smoothly.

Engage residents in social interactions such as conversation, games, crafts, or music, enhancing their daily experiences. Volunteers can choose from 1-hour shifts throughout the day.

Work alongside Care Staff to provide comfort and support to residents and their families. This role requires additional training and a larger time commitment, with 4-hour shifts available daily.

Help plan the annual floating memorial event in October, contributing to a meaningful community gathering.

Prepare meals for residents' families twice a month, contributing to a comforting home environment. Dishes can be prepared at home and brought to Pappus House.

The West Manchester Township Fire Department is a busy suburban 100% Volunteer Fire Department that responds to 850 calls for service annually. To do this we rely on highly dedicated personnel within the community. We are seeking “Home Responders” and “Live-In” members. Live-Ins – For exchange for responding to calls for service, station duties, and training, live-ins reside at the fire station for FREE. We provide 4 college style dorm rooms between our two (2) fire stations. Each dorm has a beds, dressers/wardrobes, desks, wired/wireless internet access.
