Skilled Craft or Trade, Healthcare/Medical, Interpersonal

Causes:

Disaster Relief, Poverty, Veterans & Military Families

Greenwood Rural VFD is a 50 year old volunteer department which serves a fire district of 40 square miles and 5400 residents in Parker County Texas. We have about 40 members who make 600 emergency calls per year. We are in a growing area and are in need of more Junior Firefighters (age 16-18), more volunteer Firefighters, more volunteer Emergency Medical personnel and more support personnel. If you have experience - that's wonderful. If you have no experience - don't worry, we will train you, equip you and get you ready to go. If you would like to help but aren't interested in firefighting - we can still use you on our support team. The support team helps with the administrative and financial side of the business. We have even had support personnel who volunteer to cut the grass, maintain the stations and help maintain our apparatus and equipment. | Requirements: To be a Junior Firefighter a candidate must be at least 16 years of age. Juniors train with our firefighters and become qualified to be active firefighters once they are 18 years old. Volunteer firefighters come from many walks of life - we have welders, truck drivers, nurses, engineers, business people, salesmen, a grandmother - a wide variety of backgrounds. Some come to us already qualified - others come with no background but a desire to help their community. No problem - we have a training program which focuses on candidates being certified firefighters within a year. Same thing on the medical side - we will help you get certified if you have the interest and commitment to help your community! Some people want to help out but have no desire to run into a burning building or become an emergency medical person. No problem - we have a lot of administrative and financial work. We also have a lot of other maintenance activities like cutting grass and maintaining apparatus and equipment. | Categories: Firefighter, Fundraising, EMT, Department Support
