Volunteer to provide meals for our Community Dinner Ministry in Sterling. This involves preparing and serving food to community members in need every Tuesday at 6:30pm.

Volunteers are responsible for creating uplifting cards and notes for individuals in need. Cards can be homemade or store-bought, filled with handmade messages, and must adhere to specific guidelines provided by A Bright Spot.

Coordinate the preparation and distribution of Community Care Boxes filled with cards and notes to organizations and individuals in need. This role involves organizing shipments and liaising with partner organizations.

Join the Spellers & Allies Advocacy Network to advocate for communication access for nonspeaking individuals. Collaborate with speaking peers to raise awareness and create change in schools, employment, healthcare, and the justice system.

Provide critical emergency services to the citizens and visitors of Sterling, VA. We answer more than 3000 emergency calls each year in the Sterling area covered by our three fire stations. There are high expectations of performance for all members. As a volunteer with SVFC, you will be provided with all the training you need to function at the highest capacity, whether you volunteer as an operational firefighter or associate member. | Requirements: Willingness to serve your community!! “Everyday People, Everyday Heroes” Have you ever had to call 9-1-1? We hope not, but if you have, did you stop to think about who was coming to help before you dialed? My guess is that you didn’t, and that’s exactly the way it should be. Because the Sterling Volunteer Fire Company is always there when you need us! Established in 1966, the Sterling Volunteer Fire Company has proudly served our community for 48 years. More than 180 dedicated volunteers answer the call 365 days a year. Oh, did I forget to mention we are volunteers? That’s right! We come from all walks of life; electricians, doctors, lawyers, teachers, IT engineers, bankers, stay-at-home moms…we come from everywhere! We are you! And like you, we all have regular lives, but one night a week; we give back to our community by answering the call. Do you have what it takes to “Answer The Call”? In 2014, the Sterling Volunteer Fire Company responded to over 4,100 emergencies. That’s more than 11 calls per day! With the addition of our newest station, the Kincora Safety Center (Station 24), we now staff three fire stations in the Sterling community, every night! We are looking for dedicated volunteers that are ready to help ensure the Sterling community continues to receive the superior service it has appreciated for over 48 years. The Community Service program guides members to identify local concerns and carry out projects to improve the quality of life in their communities. Through their projects, members experience character development and improve their critical and creative thinking, interpersonal communication, practical knowledge, and career preparation.

Volunteers are needed for the Annual 5KK race, the largest fundraiser of the year. Responsibilities include assisting with parking, race morning registration, water station management, cheering for runners, and course setup and cleanup.

Have fun by helping at our Council Programs and Events. This role involves assisting with various activities and ensuring that events run smoothly for the participants.

Work with a group of Girl Scouts and mentor them as they make new friends and develop connections that will last a lifetime. This role involves planning activities and guiding girls in their journey through Girl Scouts.

Coordinate the annual cookie sale at the troop level. Responsibilities include setting up cookie booths, managing inventory and money, and celebrating the achievements of the Girl Scouts as they earn rewards for their sales.

Provide hands-on CPR training to community members, helping to build a network of first responders within underrepresented communities. Volunteers will be trained to deliver CPR instruction effectively.

Engage young learners and their families in indoor gardening activities, teaching sustainable living practices and nutritional awareness. Volunteers will assist in setting up and maintaining indoor gardens using the Gardyn system.

As a volunteer for The National Map Corps, you will contribute by editing and verifying structures data across the U.S., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. This role requires internet access and a willingness to learn, allowing you to participate from your own hometown or any location of your choice.

Volunteers are needed to pick up donated food from stores, farms, or drop-off boxes, organize food drives, and grow food in home gardens. They can also start a Feed the Need or Fight Hunger club at their school or organize a Meal Kit event at their office.

Identify grant opportunities and seek business sponsors. Organize the DSFP’s charity golf tournament and other fundraisers. Perform data entry, filing, and administration work.

Volunteers pass out business cards to those who might need assistance, volunteer at community events supporting the Pantry, and transport bags of food from the 'Backpack Buddies' program to students at local schools.

Volunteers receive food donations, stock shelves, pack bags of food for Pantry guests, and distribute food when the Pantry is open. They also pack weekend food bags for food-insecure students participating in the 'Backpack Buddies' program.

•Prepares citizens to prevent fire damage by developing and conducting educational and training programs. •Ensures availability of water at fire scene by testing hydrants; requesting and expediting repairs; verifying repair. •Minimizes fire damage by responding to alarms; driving and operating equipment; regulating water pressure; combating and extinguishing fires; rescuing and reviving people. •Ensures operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; notifying supervisor of needed repairs; evaluating new equipment and techniques. •Maintains operations by following policies and procedures; reporting needed changes. •Provides information by completing reports. •Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; studying publications; participating in scheduled drills. •Maintains fire station building, grounds, and related equipment by completing maintenance schedules. •Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. ACHN welcomes licensed healthcare providers including doctors, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, physical therapists, optometrists, and registered nurses to volunteer. Volunteers must commit to a minimum of 6 months and 2 days per week, and must undergo training and orientation after acceptance.
