The Trempealeau Volunteer Fire Department is an organization that is made up of members whom volunteer their time and talents to respond to all types of emergency calls 365 days a year and 24 hours a day. We currently have 30 paid-on-call volunteer fire and 20 EMS personnel that make up our department. Our department provides fire, search and rescue, emergency medical services, inspection, and public education services to our community. The fire department covers the Village of Trempealeau, Township of Trempealeau, and the Township of Caledonia. We cover about a 80 square miles area with a permanent residence of close to 4,400 people and growing rapidly. Although we are in a small, rural community, we must cover a challenging wide variety of different needs. We are on the border of two other counties and supply mutual aid within these counties as needed. We have three major highway systems within our coverage area and supply first response EMS to fires, accidents, and medical emergencies. The Fire Department and First Responders respond to all vehicle accidents in our coverage area, as well as to all fire calls. We border the Mississippi River and have a Federal lock and dam within our coverage area along with barge and recreational boat traffic. Burlington Northern Railroad also passes through our coverage area. We are seeking individuals that are service and community-oriented and have a passion for helping others. A Firefighter serves the City of Galesville and surrounding townships by responding to a wide variety of incidents, ranging from emergencies that immediately threaten life or property to routine citizen requests for assistance, to prevent and minimize the loss of life and property by fire or other hazards. To maintain proficiency as a Firefighter, a Firefighter is expected to respond to incident calls, attend monthly training, and attend business meetings. Participate in various work days to help maintain and enhance the refuge. Volunteers will engage in activities such as habitat restoration, trail maintenance, and other conservation efforts.

Adult volunteers aged 18 and above are invited to join the healthcare team at Gundersen Health System. Volunteers must commit to regular shifts and complete necessary onboarding, including background checks and health screenings.

The Student Volunteer Program is designed for individuals aged 16 and above to explore healthcare careers and contribute to the community. Volunteers must commit to a minimum of one shift per week for 12 weeks and complete onboarding requirements.

Gift Shop volunteers assist with operations during museum hours, including sales of merchandise. Training on the point-of-sale system is provided prior to the first shift, which occurs on Thursdays, Fridays, or Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Event volunteers assist with facilitating programs, serving meals, and setting up or breaking down events hosted by the museum throughout the year. This role is ideal for those looking to gain experience in event management.

Custodian volunteers help vacuum and sweep the museum when it is closed. This role requires approximately two hours of work and can be done at the volunteer's convenience between Sundays and Wednesdays.

Docent volunteers provide tours to visitors and welcome them to the museum during operating hours. Training is provided to familiarize them with the museum exhibits, and shifts are available on Thursdays, Fridays, or Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Greeters play a significant role in making visitors feel welcome as they explore the museum. They serve as gallery attendants to ensure the safety of visitors and artwork, answer questions, and point out resources.

Garden and Grounds volunteers assist staff with regular maintenance on the museum’s 7-acre site. They help with light outdoor projects including pulling weeds, managing invasives, and maintaining the museum’s garden boxes.

Program Assistants work with children and families during family programs such as Toddler Tuesday and Second Saturdays. They help children with art projects, read stories, and assist with set-up and clean-up.

Assist in creating and promoting community outreach programs that engage local residents with the theatre's performances and workshops. Volunteers will help organize events and distribute promotional materials.

Support theatre events by assisting with setup, ushering, and providing information to attendees. Volunteers will ensure events run smoothly and enhance the audience experience.

Firefighter - Firefighters carry a department provided pager and respond to emergency calls including but not limited to structure fires, vehicle fires, grass/wild land fires, car accidents, farm accidents, and hazardous materials incidents. Firefighters are also expected to attend monthly meetings on the first and third Tuesday of each month at the fire station, and complete Firefighter I/II training after their first year of membership. All training and equipment costs are the responsibility of the fire department, and there is no cost for the member. Because of the number of duties and responsibilities within the fire department, not every member is expected to be an interior firefighter. Other job duties include pump operator, accountability/safety officer, completing vehicle maintenance, and tanker driver. An annual retirement pension is offered with this position. First Responder - First Responders carry a fire department provided pager, and asked to respond to emergency calls including but not limited to medical emergencies, vehicle and farm accidents, and fire standbys. First Responders are expected to attend monthly meetings on the first and third Tuesday of the month at the fire station. All new first responders will be expected to attend first responder or emt training approved by the MN EMSRB within their first year of membership. There is no cost to the member.
