The Long Hill Fire Dept. is seeking new volunteers to serve the community of Trumbull, CT. | Requirements: 1. New members (both junior and senior), must serve a probationary period at a minimum of six months, and must pass a firefighter proficiency examination approved by the chief in order to be considered for membership to the Long Hill Fire Department. 2. Specific requirements for probationary membership: a. Junior members must be a least 16 years of age and live within the Long Hill Fire District. b. Senior members must be at least 18 years of age. c. United States Citizenship, or Legal Alien d. Applicant must pass a departmental medical examination and history given by the Long Hill Fire Department appointed physician 3. Applicant must authorize, in writing, the Long Hill Fire Department to conduct a background investigation to include the following information: Employment Information, Educational Information, Military History, Police and Criminal Records, DMV Driver’s Record, Health Information and three (3) Character References. 4. Process leading to Probationary appointment will consist of: a. Completed application be submitted as directed b. Submission of investigation waivers for release of information c. Interview by the Board of Directors d. General Membership application acceptance e. Medical examination by fire department physician f. Submit to drug test g. Agreement to return any and all equipment issued to the applicant upon termination of membership or when requested by the Fire Company or Fire District 5. Qualifying for active membership: (eighteen years of age or older) a. Active members must pass a “Firefighter Level 1” training course b. Attend six (6) business meetings a year c. Assist in maintaining the gardens and grounds of the Trumbull Nature & Arts Center. Responsibilities include planting, weeding, and general upkeep to ensure the area remains welcoming and educational for visitors.

Support the Trumbull Nature & Arts Center's educational programs and field trips by assisting with setup, participant engagement, and program facilitation. Volunteers help create a fun and educational experience for all attendees.

Provide administrative support for the Trumbull Nature & Arts Center, including tasks related to scheduling, purchasing, and general office duties to ensure smooth operation of programs.

Assist at adoption events by helping set up, interacting with potential adopters, and providing information about the cats available for adoption.

Transport cats to vet appointments and adoption events. Volunteers must have a valid driver's license and a reliable vehicle.

Provide temporary homes for stray cats and kittens until they are adopted. Responsibilities include feeding, socializing, and caring for the cats in your home.

Help feed cat colonies by providing food and water to designated areas. This role supports the health and well-being of feral cats in the community.

Volunteers are needed to help count, sort, and organize donated shoes and items for distribution. This opportunity allows you to serve alongside others and connect with the mission of Elevate Bridgeport.

Participate in various community service events organized by SASO Boys Fairfield. Volunteers are expected to attend events with their mothers and engage in activities that support local philanthropies.

Support the scholarship program by helping with application processing, communication with applicants, and organizing scholarship award events. Volunteers will work closely with the scholarship committee.

Volunteers will make calls to community members to inform them about upcoming events and opportunities with GBLN. This role is ideal for individuals with strong communication skills and a friendly demeanor.

Assist in organizing and managing cultural events that promote Caribbean culture and raise funds for scholarships. Volunteers will help with event setup, coordination, and guest assistance.

Volunteers will engage with the community by knocking on doors to share information about GBLN's events and initiatives. This role requires strong interpersonal skills and a passion for community engagement.
