Certification/License: • Valid Kansas driver’s license and a good driving record, required. • IFSAC certified Firefighter I and Hazardous Materials Operations, within one year of beginning date of recruit class, required. • EMT certification through State of Kansas Board of EMS (KBEMS) within two years of beginning date of recruit class, required. Physical: • Must have a Volunteer Firefighter Fit for Duty signed by a physician or medical professional. • Must not have any medical condition(s) that can affect a candidate’s ability to safely perform the essential job tasks of a firefighter as outlined in Chapter 6, NFPA 1582. • Must possess the ability to pass the City of Derby Fire and Rescue Strength and Agility testing annually. Must be able to wear face masks. Work Environment: Frequent exposure to adverse weather conditions and hazardous situations. Frequent carrying, lifting, moving, or pushing of 50 pounds. Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, and twisting. Exposure to human blood and body fluids, heavy machinery, excessive noise, hazardous chemicals, explosives, radiation, confined areas and heights.
