The Bladensburg Fire District is looking for members in the Clay, Jackson township areas within Knox County, or anyone within eight miles of either station that are wishing to volunteer as a firefighter and/or emergency medical provider or a junior firefighter (15 to 18 and still in school). Participate in sorting seeds during the fall and winter seasons. This role involves organizing and preparing seeds for future planting projects.

Help transform food and yard waste into healthy soil amendments. Volunteers will assist local residents and restaurants in creating a circular food system by recapturing compostable waste.

Drive a resident to weekly classes at C-tec or Heartbeats and babysit for 2-3 hours while the resident attends classes. Requires a valid driver's license, insurance, and a background check.

Serve as a role model, teacher, advisor, counselor, and advocate to young women in the home. Assist with skills such as budgeting, parenting, time management, cooking, and baking. Requires a sincere desire to be a positive example.

Perform indoor and outdoor maintenance and repairs at the maternity home. Requires completion of volunteer paperwork and a background check.

Help facilitate the adoption process by matching cats with their forever homes. Volunteers will assist with applications and coordinate meet-and-greets.

Help with organizing and maintaining the Catnip Cottage. This role is ideal for individuals with a knack for organization and cleanliness.

Assist with marketing, fundraising, and organizing events for Whiskers Animal Rescue. This role can be performed from home and requires creativity and organizational skills.

Assist with daily care at the Catnip Cottage, including scooping, providing food and water, light cleaning, and giving love to the cats. Volunteers are expected to commit to once weekly for about two hours.

Assist with transporting cats to and from surgeries, Petco, and Petsmart locations. Volunteers should be comfortable driving and handling cats.

We are a combination Part-Time / Volunteer Department. We staff our main Station 802 (Monday-Saturday) and Perry Township Station 805 (Sundays) with 2 Paid Staff per day.
