Our members are a close-knit group of men and women whose primary focus is to work and train hard so that we are ready to help anyone in our community when the need arises. The fire service is very family oriented and the Guilderland Fire Department is no different. Our members families are often invited to picnics, awards dinners, baseball games, day trips, community events etc. In fact, our members are so close that often families even choose to vacation together. As a Basic Life Support agency, the North Bethlehem Fire Department provides First Response (non-transport) BLS services to our district. North Bethlehem EMTs also respond to mutual aid requests for Firefighter Rehab, rescues, and motor vehicle accidents in the district. Department members interested in pursuing this credential for the first time are also eligible. As a CASA volunteer, you will be assigned to the case of a child or group of siblings in foster care. You will provide diligent advocacy to ensure children in foster care have their needs met and spend no more time in foster care than necessary.

Work at events or conferences organized by BIANYS, assisting with setup, registration, and other event-related tasks. Volunteers will help ensure the smooth operation of events that support brain injury awareness and fundraising.

Participate in event-planning committees to help organize and execute BIANYS events. Volunteers will collaborate with staff and other volunteers to plan logistics, secure venues, and coordinate event details.

MHLC hosts several large events each year, including the fall fundraiser and new preserve openings. Volunteers help set up and take down these events, managing a variety of tasks that make these events a success.

Volunteers are needed to greet the Nature Bus riders at Fisher Trail (MHLC's new trail in partnership with Five Rivers Environmental Center). The 2024 schedule is coming soon!

Volunteer as a preserve steward and help us monitor and maintain one of our 22 public nature preserves. Walk the trail networks weekly or monthly, complete light maintenance, and notify us of any significant maintenance needs or vandalism. Training will be provided.

As a mentor, you will play a crucial role in guiding a college-bound high school student. Mentors meet with their Scholars between two and four hours a month for at least one year, providing support and encouragement as they navigate their educational journey.

Help us with your talents to record and preserve the contributions of Italian heritage and culture to our society. High school and college students are invited to work on different projects, and internships are available.

Assist with the shoreline stabilization project by planting native species to reduce erosion and improve wildlife habitat. Volunteers will work under the guidance of the More Trees crew to plant over 60 new plants along the pond's shoreline.

Participate in the Fall Clean-up event organized by the Buckingham Pond Conservancy, usually in October or November. Volunteers will engage in activities such as trash collection and invasive species removal to maintain the park's beauty.

Join the Buckingham Pond Conservancy for their Spring Clean-up event, typically held in May. Volunteers will help with park maintenance tasks such as trash removal and invasive plant management. Tools are provided, but volunteers are encouraged to bring their own gloves and clippers.

Provide transportation for members attending the Pine Bush Dinner, especially those with allergies to animals and fragrances. Volunteers should have no pets and refrain from wearing perfume.

As a Guest Services volunteer, you support RMH families by assisting with daily needs, answering phones, reserving rooms, checking families in and out, and receiving donations.

Playgroup happens during English classes to give our adult learners access to childcare. We are seeking enthusiastic individuals who are passionate about creating a welcoming and nurturing environment for young children. As a playgroup volunteer, you'll have the opportunity to engage in creative play, storytelling, and educational activities that help these children thrive.

Assist refugees and their families in resolving issues complicated by language barriers. Help with phone calls to utility companies, interpret billing questions, assist with forms, applications, school enrollment, internet searches, or other transactions that are challenging for those who are not proficient in speaking, reading and/or writing English.

Volunteer to teach adult English classes that meet twice a week. Most of our students are at a beginning level. Classes are small groups that consist of up to 8 students. Teachers are expected to plan and develop lessons after going through a training program.

Conduct and engage refugees in informal or formal English conversations. Create dialogues that will help refugees express themselves, build listening and fluency skills, and utilize topics that are useful as they manage daily activities, apply and interview for jobs, or navigate through our culturally diverse community.

Volunteers are needed for the 28th annual LATINFEST to assist with various activities throughout the day. Responsibilities include helping with event setup, guiding attendees, and supporting festival operations. Volunteers receive a T-shirt, meal, and an invitation to a Thank You dinner.

Make continuous pots of coffee and replenish pots in the dining room when needed. Bring clean dishes and silverware out to the fellowship hall.

Load and empty the dishwasher, run the disposal, and help wash pots. Must receive 'dishwashing 101' training prior to use.

Assist with kitchen cleaning, reconfiguring the hall as needed, and breaking down boxes. Everyone is encouraged to pitch in.

Prepare hot meals and side dishes for the Winter Breakfast Program. Responsibilities include cleaning the griddle and ensuring food safety.

Keep side tables clean, refill items on serving tables, clean up spills, wrap utensils, and perform other tasks as assigned by the Breakfast Coordinator.

Make sandwiches and prepare lunch bags with assorted items according to the direction of the Food Manager. Guests may take one lunch per person and are asked to sign the lunch list.

Volunteers who are not on the regular schedule but can fill in from time to time. This role is flexible and varies based on need.

Take hot meal orders from guests, serve hot meals, and remind guests to bus their dishes when finished. Encourage guests to move to side chairs after meals to free up tables.
