Interested applicants must take a pre-test before enrolling in the class and upon acceptance, will complete approximately 180 hours of classroom and clinical training. Classes are typically held 2 evenings per week and every other Saturday. Upon completion of EMT training, students are required to perform and pass hands-on skills testing as well as take and pass a national registry test. All expenses incurred for training will be paid for by the Sterling Fire District upon completion of the application and background check. The Firefighter 1 classes are typically held at the Wayne County Fire & Rescue Regional Training Facility in Apple Creek. Applicants will be required to complete the classroom and hands-on training and the hours are approximately 190 hours for FF1 and skill testing. The physical training requires the applicant to wear a full set of fire turn-out gear while completing tasks such as climbing a ladder, carrying a fire hose a designated distance, crawling through a maze, and much more!
