Assist in the trap/neuter/release process for feral cats in the West Plains area. Volunteers will help with trapping, transporting, and releasing cats, as well as providing ongoing care and monitoring of cat colonies.

A paid-on-call firefighter is a homeowner or other resident of our community, just like you, has an interest in helping his or her neighbors whenever a fire, accident or other natural disaster strikes. As a paid-on-call department, the West Plains Fire Department depends upon the timely and determined response of these citizen members who selflessly serve their community when the alarm sounds. Under the general direction of the Fire Chief, a paid-on-call firefighter is responsible for answering calls, and extinguishing fires, protecting life and property, operating and maintaining fire equipment, apparatus and quarters. The position requires extensive training in the use of apparatus, tools, and equipment and the performance of hazardous tasks under emergency conditions, which may require strenuous exertion under such handicaps as smoke and cramped surroundings, and in the inspections of buildings for fire hazards to prevent fires from starting. | Requirements: Minimum Requirements 18 years of age  Posses a high school diploma or equivalent  Live within the city limits of West Plains and be a full time resident (with exceptions)  Posses a valid driver's license issued by the State of Missouri  No felony convictions  Not subject to restrictions that would interfere with firefighting duties  Previous education or experience in the area of firefighting is not necessary. Under general supervision, a Paid Call Firefighter must provide firefighting and rescue operations support in response to fires, disasters, and other emergency incidents in serving to protect both life and property; and to perform other related duties as required. Paid Call Firefighters perform duties comparable to that of regular full-time Firefighters; however, a Paid Call Firefighter is an extra help employee of the West Plains Fire Department. Paid on Call Firefighters generally have a full time job and respond to or participate in fire department activities outside of their normal work hours. | Requirements: Minimum Qualifications Required 1. Assist with the Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program to help manage and reduce the feral cat population. Volunteers will help with trapping, transporting, and returning cats after they have been spayed or neutered.
