Summary of position Our volunteer firefighters and support members serve the community in a wide range of emergency and non-emergency situations. The volunteer firefighters may be called upon to deliver fire suppression, emergency medical assistance, rescue, hazardous material response, and with the help of support members, public education to the citizens and visitors of Williams, AZ. Essential Duties Volunteer Firefighter • Responds to alarms of fire or other emergencies in accordance with department procedures. After being certified: drives apparatus, operates fire pumps and auxiliary equipment. Lays and connects hose, holds nozzles and directs water streams. Raises and climbs ladders, uses chemical extinguishers, and a variety of other portable and related equipment. • Participates in training sessions and attends classes in firefighting, hazardous materials, rescue, emergency medical treatment, and related subjects. • Responds to calls for emergency services, prepared to perform life-saving techniques and other onsite care of victims if required. • Responds to emergency calls for vehicle accidents, various rescue situations, and natural or other catastrophes. • Performs a wide variety of general custodial and maintenance work in the upkeep of department apparatus, equipment, and station. Cleans and washes gear and equipment. Wash, hang and dry the hose. Washes, cleans and polishes apparatus. The listing of examples, however, shall not be construed as a complete listing of miscellaneous, incidental, or substantively similar duties which may be assigned during the normal operation of the Fire Department. Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Experience: No experience is required. Volunteer Firefighters are expected to complete and pass an approved department training program. This 12 week program is conducted two nights a week and one weekend day. Additional certifications include NIMS 100, 200, 700, 800, and CPR within one year after joining the Department. This position is ideal for certified firefighters and EMS providers looking to gain experience, contribute to their community, and support a growing department. Reserve Firefighters will sign up for 12- or 24-hour shifts and work alongside the full-time on-duty firefighter to provide fire suppression, emergency medical response, and other all-hazard services.
