Volunteers are essential to the Highland Lake Association, helping with various tasks to preserve and protect the lake's natural resources. Responsibilities may include participating in environmental monitoring, community events, and administrative support.

Participate in the annual loon count organized by the Maine Audubon Society. Volunteers scan assigned sectors of the lake for signs of loons early in the morning on the third Saturday in July.

Courtesy Boat Inspectors help ensure that Panther Pond stays free of milfoil and other invasive plants by inspecting boats at several launches in the Raymond Watershed. Volunteers are provided with training and equipment for their shifts.

Water Quality Monitors use secchi disks, temperature, and dissolved oxygen measurements to monitor the clarity of Panther Pond. Volunteers can receive training and certification to assist in these efforts.

Invasive Plant Patrollers inspect designated sectors of Panther Pond for invasive plants. Volunteers receive training from experienced leaders and are assigned their own sectors to monitor.

Research historic locations around town to provide or update content for a new interactive map of historic buildings and locations.

Assist in painting, cleaning, and improving the museum facility to ensure it remains a welcoming and functional space for visitors.

Clean, tidy, and rearrange displays as needed to maintain an organized and engaging museum environment.

Catalog acquisitions as they are accepted and enter acquisition and item descriptions into the PastPerfect database to improve access to items in the collections.

Review and index a series of scrapbooks containing news articles, photos, and obituaries spanning several decades. Capture key words/topics to be entered into a spreadsheet or database for improved accessibility.

Assist in responding to email inquiries on topics such as building history, burial information, and family or individual history.

Research content to post on the 'From Our Files' section, focusing on images and descriptions that respond to the interests of the Facebook group.

Join our team of dedicated volunteers to help care for rescued wolves, wolf hybrids, and wolfdogs. Volunteers assist with daily care, maintenance, and educational outreach programs to support the sanctuary's mission.

The Westbrook Fire Rescue Department is a progressive combination agency (staffed with full-time, per-diem and call company members). We currently have a need for additional call firefighters and fire police staff. Call firefighters supplement the on-duty crews at larger incidents such as structure fires, vehicle extrications, hazardous materials incidents, storm coverages and special call-backs. Fire Police staff primarily assist with traffic and crowd control at these incidents but may also assist with other specialty details such as parades and other large mass gatherings. No experience necessary - other than a good attitude and a desire to learn.
